I've decided to finally get a high quality 1911, but I'm torn between this two. I know two different sizes, but I like them both. So any input would be appreciative and current pricing would be very helpful. Thanks.

Range gun, or carry gun? I like the Custom Carry myself. I prefer full size, especially in a Baer, and carbon steel.

A full size Baer is a more reliable Baer.

Mostly for range and limited carry. I have an SR1911 and a Kimber, but wanted to get a high quality 1911 and maybe start collecting them. I usually carry my S&W M&P 45 mix and match daily now mix and match means compact slide on full size frame)
Does anyone have own either of these and feel like sharing pics, as I have not been able to actually feel one in person.
Thanks for the help.

Collecting high end 1911s is a real expensive hobby . ;)

I've got a LW Commander sized Baer that is TOP NOTCH! But... it was built by Ted Yost when he was the master gunsmith at Gunsite.

I would definately get the Custom Carry in carbon steel. The 1.5" guarantee is not necessary unless you are concerned with fractionally better accuracy, the standard 3" (group) will be much more accurate than your current 1911's.

I have two Baers and couldn't be happier with them, a TRS 1.5 and a 6" longslide. A good place for information is the 1911 forum. Some have had issues with Stingers, I won't comment as I don't own that model.

The Custom Carry, or PII for pure target, may be the best value in semi-custom 1911's.

Bought mine from Crazy John in Idaho for low prices.

Unless you're left handed I would go with the UTC over either of them.

First let me say thank you for the advice and the suggestion of looking at the 1911 forum. Lots of good info. You guys are probably going to think I'm nuts, but since I'm done buying AR platforms and I have money from a planned build that will not come to fruition (Maybe in the future). I'm going to go with the two following 1911s. One question (forgive the NOB question) but is it normal to fill out the order form for an Ed Brown Special Forces 5 inch and then they send it to your FFL or is this something some FFLs carry? Thanks for your help and yes this looks to be a very expensive hobby. :wow:

I have two of pistols like you are interested in getting; I have shot more rounds through them since I did my initial reviews, but you can see the pics.
The Special Forces has about 500 rounds thru it now.
The Baer UTC now has ~750 and is still incredibly tight.
I will refrain from using the word love, but I really like these two pistols.

I vote full size as well Baer has (deserved or not) a reputation of sorts that their 4 1/4" guns are less reliable. I has a 4 1/4" Baer, while very reliable it was not perfect.

I had a Thunder ranch special it was the best shooting 1911 I have ever owned. I had to sell it a few years ago after we shut down the family business:( and my funds got low.

What I know of Les Baer is all good. I have a TRS that I ordered without the front slide serraitons that has been 100% since day one. I now have over 7,000 rounds through the gun without a single issue. Best 1911 I have ever owned.

I own and shoot two Les Baers. Both are Premier II models that I use as range guns. Extremely accurate and will last a lifetime. They fit them tight, but I have never had any issues with mine. Sweat 3.5 lbs trigger that breaks like glass.

You can’t beat the fit on a Baer for the price. If a beautiful finish is what you want, the go with another high end brand like Wilson. Bear finishes are durable, but not as nice as Wilson will be.

Call Crazy John at 1911Heaven and the deal he will offer will shock you. well below msrp on a lot of his guns. No tax unless you live in Idaho. I have done a lot of business with him and he is honest and very knowledgeable. He all so stocks lot of his guns so nowait unless you want to special order

Yep... At one time it would have been possible but today, not so much. Maybe one day again.

I sold a couple damn nice pistols to be able to buy my Baer. No regrets though, it's a hell of a 1911.

I'm thinking of selling a Trials bike to get my next 1911.

I picked up a used Stinger model a couple years ago....has been a great unit and 100% reliable. More accurate than I can shoot off-hand.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/FullClip/BaerStinger.jpg

Like the size of a Commander size slide on an Officers frame. Easy to tuck away. Next time home, will check out a full sized unit to add to the collection.

You won't be sorry buying one, even if it means eating a lot of mac-n-cheese for a while to fund the purchase.
