View Full Version : A cat peed on my guns...

Seriously, this is f-ed up. Was at my dad's house last week and brought four guns along with ammo, clips, and cleaning supplies. Shot three of the guns, then came home Friday. Saturday through today my gun bag sat in office because I was too busy to clean the three guns that were actually shot. I did take the G21 out of the bag Saturday and back to its rightful place in my bedroom, so it was not involved.

My dad has dogs, three big ones. I made sure my gun bag was in a place they wouldn't mess with it, but it still picked up dog scent apparently. My cat Mick hates dogs with a white-hot passion. Today, while cleaning the guns and putting them back into their respective storage places, I noticed my wife's Ruger .38 LCR, which was in a plastic bag inside a soft-sided pouch bag that came with the gun bag, was wet. And the wet stuff was kind of yellow. And smelled like piss.

:faint:

Yes, my cat peed on my Ruger .22 Mark III and my wife's Ruger LCR. The Glocks were apparently unaffected as the pee just went into one part of the bag which fed right into the Ruger soft-side bag. It will have to be put through the washer, although burning everything is a possibility.

So I cleaned the guns, they are no worse for wear I think, but I'm probably the only person on GT that had this happen to them. :embarassed:

Ask the cat first though , I'm not a barbarian !

Definitely a time to replace the Rugers with new glocks. Bless the cats for they are Glock supporters and have good taste. Sorry about the hose job on the Rugers. :crying:

My fault for leaving the bag on my office floor instead of putting it up where it belongs. I know this about that cat, but my main computer died Saturday morning and I got side-tracked working on that thing, which is indeed screwed up.

You will have to throw the bags away. Once a cat a pee's on something, they will do it again. If that were my cat... it would be going on a long one way trip.

Wouldn't do him any good. He's perfectly fine, never pees anywhere, except if something smells like dog and you leave it out for him to pee on. Took us awhile to figure out why, whenever we bought him a bed from Pet's Mart, he'd just pee on it instead of lay on it. Then one day while I was in there I saw some dog knock over the cat bed display and start playing with the beds. Just dog in the air is enough, because that's all that happened to my gun bag at my dad's house.

Oh. Touched by dog, must be punished. In his pea-sized brain at least.

Had a buddy crash at my place for a few days, he got the bright idea to chase my cat around with a squirt gun.
He left a duffle bag of his clean clothes on the bathroom floor.
Well the cat crapped on his clothes.
I don't mean next to the bag or on the bag, I mean the cat got his big grey ass(Russian Blue) in the bag and crapped on the clothes.
Buddy finds it and says 'guess I sort of had that coming', I agreed.
Up until that cat died about 8 years later, the cat still didn't like my friend.

I agree the OP should piss on the cat. If they are not punished they will continue. One of my cats once got on the couch next to me and started to pee while looking at me like "what are you gonna do about it?" He soon found out and apparently did not like it because he has not peed on anything again.

There was a time, years ago, when we took pride in ownership. We'd clean and lube our guns after shooting them, and put them up with care.

The Colts and Smiths, that is. In those days Rugers were the last guns anybody worried about. Cats wouldn't even bother pissing on 'em.

If that was my cat, he'd likely be unable to ever pee on his own again.

I might be tempted to see how far he could run...

I've had one cat in my lifetime, I'm a dog person. Long story short, he SPRAYED on all of my long-gun rugs. Cat is gone, never used the rugs after that but I keep them to remind me of my boy. He was a great cat (not cat-like) and I'll never get another. I'll also never get that smell out - ever. I miss him, there are a few good cats, I had one of em'. RIP Grover.

Well, my wife said she would totally scrub it down with hot soapy water, then spray some special cat odor remover stuff with some enzymes or some crap in it, and see what I think after that. I told her that is great because then she will have her own range bag, I'm buying me new one.

What's a bummer is that you really can't smell it too bad when it's out in the garage like it is now. But put it in a closet for a day and open the closet door...

Ah, wife bought me a new bag today and I transferred all my stuff over to it. She'll find a way to make the old (well, month-old) range bag smell OK. Oh, and I picked up two G17 mags plus a factory 12-round G26 mag today, for a pretty good price (around $30 each), all brand new and Gen4. Oh, also got a Troy 30-round AR pmag for $30. The store had a bunch of those pmags, just got about 50 in. The guy I bought the mags from said he hung the the G17 mags and the pmags on the hooks behind the counter about 10 seconds before I came in.

We're lucky to have a good number of places to buy stuff. There are at least eight quality gun stores within 10 miles of where I live. Well, if you count Wal-Mart as quality as they count for three of them.
