Guncrafter Industries stainless steel No Name 45

Initial thoughts,........

A bit of background. I have owned a few Les Baers, two Ed Browns, a
Springfield Pro, a melonite GI No Name & several production pistols.
I currently own a Colt tweaked by Chuck Rogers, a Springfield Compact 45
full house build by Chuck, & I have a Springfield getting a facelift by Joe Chambers.

I traded a Springfield Professional for this Guncrafter Industries,
stainless steel No Name 45. It was one of three made, & the only
one with polished slide flats.

More on the stainless No Name......
Frame, slide & components are absolutely void of machine marks!
I have seen these present in Baer, Brown & most production guns.
Fitment is tight, but very, very, smooth. Slide could not be fitted any
better. Thumb safety aft radius matches frame very nicely. Slide stop
has the "idiot proof groove" machined in to avoid the dreaded mark! I will
continue to use a tool to depress the plunger regardless. Trigger is very
crisp, would estimate slightly below four pounds. I did replace the factory
trigger with a Harrison Extreme, short, solid piece. Internals are some of
the best I've seen to date,....no MIM parts in this masterpiece!

Overall,........dare I say it? It's a better built, better finished 1911 than
any production or semi-custom I have ever handled.

The Three Amigos together..........

The Pro was very nice, but, the quality was not what I expected
after all those years of drooling over them. In the end,....a BIG let down.

Regardless of quality(which I've read is VERY HIGH) the Guncrafters I've seen here and other forums are TOP 3 in the 1911 looks department In my opinion.
They just look RIGHT!!!!
I'm not a SS fan as far as looks but GC even makes those look great.

I couldn't be happier with my Stainless GC NN CCO.

It ate everything that I fed it today.

As mentioned not a tool mark anywhere. The fit is perfect.

I have to add that I shot my SA Pro for the second time and it was flawless as well. Ate everything like a hungry dog.

I see small differences in Joe's HC CCO and the Stainless one. The pic where he stacked them rocks!

I just cleaned her again because I'm shooting again in an hour. It was a dirty thing. I'm happy to see it and know that there wasn't a single issue earlier.

It basically confirms what I believe about a 1911. If it's made right, it is a pleasure and performs as one expects.

I don't think that should include several trips back to the manufacturer. This gun has everything that it needs and nothing that it doesn't IMO.

Grips are VZ Operator II, planning on replacing those. Looking at

I don's see this one going anywhere!
I hope not. I wish I had bought that SA custom (Miller or Harrison) when you sold that. Who ended up with that thing anyway? I don't know what is so special about those 3 SS NN's, but Alex really did them right. Dave has pawed all three and said they were identical other than looks and were as good as any 1911 he's ever held. I'm sure you can tell a difference between this one and the other NN you had. And that's no knock on your other NN. These are just better. I can't describe it, but you know what I'm talking about. And IMO, these are built better than the SA Pro and by a good bit. And the SA Pro is no slouch by ANY means.

faawrenchbndr
01-09-2013, 19:51
A collector in Arizona bought it......he has a few of Miller's pistols.

Kinda good to know you feel the same way about the GC vs Pro
Quite a few actually seem to think I'm nuts.

Simply put, the Springfield Pro is a GREAT 1911,..... but this stainless No Name is better!

Yes, I've read everything I can find. He is very impressive.
I put another 100 rounds through the CCO tonight. You asked about grouping. It groups just fine at 30 feet.
The only thing between me and some two second drills is the arrival of my holster.

Sawgrass,

It exceeds my expectations. I've shot two other CCO's with different results. I let the instructor who runs ladies night shoot it. Then she shot the Pro. When she finished she looked at them both and said "I like that one better", as she pointed at the GI.

Later we loaded up some 33rd mags and practiced rapid fire with a G34. We were giggling and laughing the whole time.

This is the first 1911 that I've purchased new ,that I have shot so much in 24hrs and put everything I can find through it and not had a single issue. It is the best 1911 that I own hands down.

I guess my behind will be planted in front of the Dillon tomorrow while my SO lubes and sizes bullets.

New from Darc Ops Armory. I was going to order from George at Gunslingers, but found the exact configuration I wanted in stock at Darc Ops. I had to pay a little more, but my birthday coming up gave me just the excuse I needed not to wait. :whistling:

It's a No Name Commander CCO in black melonite with round butt frame, flush cut barrel, and flush cut slide stop.

A fellow who bought a GI in .50 came over earlier.
He has carried this gun for six or so years. It's black
so I'm assuming that it's melonite. There wasn't a mark on it. He didn't remember. We checked our triggers with a Lyman electronic trigger gauge and they were both consistently right at 4.5lbs. That speaks well to the quality control at Guncrafter. This guy is a retired Engineer from 3M and like us couldn't say enough about how fine the machining is on both guns.

Did Alex start out with melonite?
If he did, and that's what I saw tonight, I "need" one.

From Alex Zimmerman this am:

Take notice that SS pistols require a good quality gun oil.
Breakfree is a good choice, it is also a good idea to get an oil/iight grease specifically for SS, such as RIG, and put it on the slide/frame rails.

If a SS pistol is run too dry there is the possibility of galling and we can't have that on such a fine pistol, keep the rails well oiled :-)
