So I have come to the conclusion that I really want a G19 or possibly a G17. I have a G23 that I am going to sell to fund this. Would you get rid of a .40 for a 9mm? This more of a fun gun than anything as I already own a G32 and that is my EDC.

You can easily shoot 9mm in your Glock 23 with a 'conversion barrel'. At the most just a lower #lb recoil spring & the 9mm mags is all you need. I have a KKM barrel for my 23, works fine.

If it was me I'd lean on keeping the 23 & adding the 9mm gun when you find an O.K. deal.

I have actually thought about buying the conversion but with everyone losing their minds and selling mags at outrages prices, it just seemed easier to buy the gun with mags. I refuse to succumb to people trying to get rich over the current scare. I may just hold onto it and when the time comes just add to the collection I guess it wont hurt to own one in each caliber.

Oh, and finding mags online as I am sure you already know is next to impossible.

I think if you look around some mags can still be had, yes prices vary widely. Without looking I have bought some mags since the CT shooting, 30 & 10 rnd AR mags, 13 round H&K mags, & a Sig P238 mag. This was through forums classifieds, Gunbroker, & even one on fleabay. Many seem hung up on 'Pmags', the "D&H" AR mags do me just fine.

I would get 'conversion' components for your Glock 23 WHILE you look for your next gun.

You also mention the 9mm shooting would be 'just for fun'. With that being the case all the more reason to go with a conversion.

If it was me, conversion barrel or save for a G19.

I was considering a G23 with a conversion barrel for 9mm, but my other half wanted and bought a G19, so I hesitate on the G23 as I already have 9 different calibers, and really don’t need another caliber. Some day if I can justify the cost of stocking up on .40 ammo, I’ll probably pick up a G23.

As for magazines, I’ve used the “Email Me When In Stock” option in the past. When email arrives, jump on it. Saves a lot of searching. You can’t be in a rush for them in todays political climate. Click on the “Email Me” button and forgetaboutit till the email arrives. Glock 19 15 round mags are $27.95 with a limit of 2 per customer at Top Gun Supply right now, but out of stock.

As mentioned above you can get an aftermarket bbl in 9mm for your G23. That's what I'd do & I'd also get a .357 Sig bbl for it too!

When you sell a gun, you usually loose money on it in the exchange. I'd keep it & set it up for the 9!

Since it is not for carry and especially with ammunition being in somewhat short supply lately the conversion and retaining the ability to use .40 does seem to have merit.

I too would vote for conversion barrel.

You will then have three calibers at your disposal. Since its just for fun you could probably find some 10 round mags easier or cheaper. Though you don't want to overpay for mags as you say, if the price of the new Glock is jacked and you lose a little or break even on the G23 sale you might come out worse.

You'll need to add it up, but I would be of a mind not to get rid of any good working firearm right now.

I guess you also have the option of selling the G23 and buying a 23 OEM barrel for your 32 and a 9mm conversion barrel for your 32. You still have all three caliber but downside only one pistol. (shudder)

Or plan C, forget getting the new gun now. Just go on a quest for magazines. Later you can get the pistol or a conversion barrel. Not to mention 9mm ammo stock seems pretty hit or miss at the moment.

I'm personally buying regular capacity mags for things I would like to have in the future but don't own yet.

Well I guess ya'll have changed my mind. I will start looking for mags and just slowly piece it together. I'm just not a very patient person, that is why I was asking. Thank you all for your opinion's.

Check out Lone Wolf (http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Default.aspx) for a conversion barrel.

If you're dead set on a G19, you could try to find someone wanting a trade, perhaps in the Classifieds (http://glocktalk.com/classifieds/index.php) here.

BTW, :welcome:

I'd get the G19 (and not just the conversion kit) for the reasons you mention and also because the window to accumulate such things may be closing, depending on what happens in the next month or so. Pretty sure it will be vastly easier to find a new G19 than mags on the shelf.

Also, you may find the G19 a lot more practical than you imagine right now.

I may try to trade it. I just love the way 9mm shoots, so either way I will have one. The .40 by no means is a bad round I just like my .357 a lot more.

You have a 32 and a 23 already. I would trade the 23 for a 19 and find a 40 barrel. The 32 mags will work for .40 and your 19 will come with 9mm mags If you get a conversion barrel you still have to find mags.

You can always convert your 357 to 40, with a Glock 40 S&W barrel. I think it was $125, when I bought one for my G31. You won't even need to buy new mags.

I guess it depends on ammo in your area. Right now it's really hard for me to find 9MM but I see .40 every where I go
