I was shooting my Range Officer today with the Springfield 10 rd extended mags. Twice I had an issue where the first round got jammed, halfway out of the magazine, halfway into the chamber. I had to really tug on the magazine to get it out, and when I did the round was sticking straight up. I counted each round and there were only 10 in there.

Has anyone else had similar problems before, with those magazines specifically or 10 rounders in general?

Thanks!

As a rule 10 rounders can be problematic for a 1911 in 45.
My RO is flawless with the stock 7 rounders but the 10 rounder I have is a bit fussy with certain loads.

To me,in general 10 rounders are range mags.

Sounds like mag spring is too strong for the slide's travel action to strip the round from the mag.

Is there a way to fix that?

You can replace the recoil spring with a heavier spring, but then the round may not be able to reliably kick the slide back.

You can cut a leg/loop off the mag spring and see if that would help too.

Or you can just ditch the 10-rounder. I suggest this option.
