The 9th round is almost impossible to load into my Gen 4 G27 mags. After I do get it in then its even more difficult to load into the mag well without a very firm slap with the heel of my weak hand. Any tips or suggestions?

Leave them loaded for a while and let them loosen up, it will get easier over time. A simple google search would have given you hundreds of results on this exact same topic.
All of my G33 mags have the same issue with .40, the last round is very hard to get in. Yet 9 rounds of .357sig fit in with room to spare.

mine were like that when I first got the g27. I just loaded in 8 for a while and after a few range trips they now hold 9 no problem.

I would load 8 rounds and not worry about it. You probably won't ever need new mag springs. I have never believed any spring should be used fully compressed. The wire stacks on itself and it's a one-way spring. The cartridge pick-up rail puts additional pressure, on that spring, when you shove it into your gun.
I believe, I'm the only Glock owner that thinks most all Glock magazines should be down-loaded by 1 or 2 rounds, depending on the caliber.
The contract, to supply the Austrian army the G17, required only 1 mag to be furnished, if the pistol held 16 rounds or more. Glock saved a tidy sum, in just mags. He wasn't a gun engineer, he just wanted to cram the most ammo in a reasonable sized magazine.

Normal operation. Leave loaded to 9 fire & repeat. Gets easier.
