I was checking out the Springfield Custom Shop and they offer a service of "bobtail style" and "Round Butt of Frame and mainspring housing". I have a Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded. I was thinking of this type of customization.
Anyone do-it yourself on either of those mods? I guess it would involve refinishing the butt of the frame. How difficult a job was it for you? Parts cost as well? Thanks.

I did a round butt on my Loaded project, then went onto a
bob-tail. Cost was about $100, not counting sandpaper &
refinishing. Took about four hours, only special tools needed
are the jig from Ed Brown, drill press and an anti walk drill bit.
Jig & bit are available at Brownells.
Below is a link to the pics i took while doing this. The Springer
is currently at a shop getting refinished.

pics are in reverse order, take a look at page 2 first.

Great work! The rounded would be something I would try to tackle; however, I would be very leary on the "bobtail style", unless I had a project gun and the jig. I do like the bobbed style better.
I wonder if there is a way to do a parkerize touch-up on the rounded area myself without sending it out?

Brownells has a few products that would provide a good touch up.
