I have a stainless Python and would like to have it polished. Would this degrade the value, and how much would it cost...thanks

I would say it would degrage the value, but how much I can't tell you.

Drop an email to the Colt Custom Shop and they'll give you an estimate.

It would lower the value by quite a bit!
Buy a 686 or Ruger and junk that up!

Break out the Dremel and have at it!!

Just joking, it would decrease the value if you tried to sell it to an educated buyer. But unless the polishing is a real butcher job you could pass it off pretty easy to somebody with a hankering for a Python that doesn't have an eye to finish detail.

It's your gun, so if you don't plan on selling it for a profit, do what ever makes you happy. Just make sure the guy doing the job knows what he's doing.

Depends on what you mean by polishing it.

If it were to come with what they called the Ultimate Stainless Finish (mirror polished) that had incurred some scratches and you wanted to polish it back out again, then I don't think that it's going to degrade the value.

If it were to have the brushed finish and now you want to do the mirror polished finish, then obviously it is no longer original and you will incur some value degradation. But if you were to have it brush finished again? I don't think that it's going to do anything to the value. It's not like you're rebluing a blued gun - putting a new coat of finish on top of the original one. There ain't no coating on a SS Python.

I'd be scared to do anything to it with the money I'm seeing some pythons bring lately.

Even then it's at least original.
Why don't you make some pictures?
If you can't post them, send them to me and I will.
