View Full Version : Who prefers Sub-Compact Glocks?

I have tried a few different Glocks over the years, G17 Gen2, G23 Gen3 and a G19 Gen3. I really wanted to like them but they never fit me that well. Then I tried a G23 Gen4 and felt that it fit me better and I shot it pretty well. Then I had the oppurtunity to try a G27 Gen3. I fell in love with it, so much so that I had to get one. It felt great in my hand. I think the placement of the hump in the hollow of my hand is why it feels so good. Plus, I shot the G27 better than the G23. It conceals better, and still holds enough firepower to be used as a HD gun.

I like the Sub-Compact Glock so much I am working a deal to trade my G23 for another G27 this one is a Gen4. Anyone else prefer the Sub-Compact Glock?

I can't say "prefer" except in the category of CCW. I prefer my sub over my compact for carry; but, for accuracy, I am slightly more so with the compact.

I really like them a lot, including the G30 which Glock classifies as subcompact. Even with all the other handguns I have in my carry rotation (I like variety...) I am still most at ease with a 26, 27, 30, 33, or 39 at my side. I'd carry a G29, but mine hasn't arrived for pickup at the LGS yet!

I consider the baby Glocks to be excellent CCW pistols and have had no reliability issues over more than 10 years.

I like them a lot. G26 FTW. I shoot it best. I like the G17 a lot too. I have warmed up some to my G19, but it's never going to put baby in the corner.

G26 is my personal favorite.
Here in sunny FL, I wear kakis and polos for the job and the 26 conceals very well.
Never feel under armed with it, really enjoy it and love it.

I preferred my G27 for EDC when I lived in a state that permitted it, now for range time I find myself leaning more towards compact/full size models.

In 9mm I have the 34 and the 26.
I prefer the 34 for the range and IDPA and the 26 for carrying.
Who would have though....?
So basically what I'm saying is that it depends on the situation.

I prefer the sub compacts to the other models as well. The compacts would be my second favorite, and the full size ones I don't really have much interest in.

I carry my G27 as my primary in the summer, and use it as my BUG in the winter. I also shoot the 27 better than the 23. If I use an extended mag with a sleeve on the 27, I'm just as accurate.

Absolutely. Like you, I've owned many Glocks in 9mm and .40 caliber and even owned a G20 in 10mm for deer hunting. But now that I'm retired and have hit 62 years of age, I've decided that it's less confusing to own just ONE Glock, so I made my one gun a Gen 4 Model 26 and I've never been more pleased.

The gun is waaay more accurate than I am; it's been totally reliable with several different types of ammo, it's easy to conceal and I love the flexibility with different magazine options up to and including 15-round mags with X-Grip magazine sleeves which makes it feel just like a G19 for IDPA matches and home defense. Regarding the little gun's remarkable accuracy, Massad Ayoob addressed that issue in last year's Complete Book of Handguns by Harris Outdoor publications. It make a great read and was perhaps the ultimate tipping point when I was making my decision on my one-gun philosophy.

Me too. The swell on the back of the grip hits the meat of my hand in just the right place. Sub compact Glock + GAP floor plates = CCW greatness.

I've had them all but now I just have a pair of 26s, pair of 39s and a dedicated 22 platform that used to be a 27.

I love my 19 for an all-purpose handgun. I especially like being able to get a "full" grip, but my 26 plays an important role in my EDC rotation. It's also very helpful that most holsters are interchangeable for the two of them.

At the risk of being burned at the stake for saying so, I wouldn't own a Glock that wasn't a sub compact model. I own a G26 (Black) and G27 (OD) and would never sell them. Sorry, I've tried but I can't LIKE the larger models. They just don't feel good in my hand. Blast away!

Well, I had to cancel my trade for the G27 Gen4. I still have my G27 Gen3 so all is good. I may just keep the G23, it is a good gun, and if the antis get their way I may not be able to replace it if I ever wanted to.

Me too. Owned a G17g4 and a G19g4. They didn't fit my hand well. Was looking for a subcompact to prepare for the possibility of CCW in IL. Tried everything but a G26. Out of frustration I tried out a G26Gen4.

Now I own one. It's my only Glock.

The subs just didnt do it for me, my 19 and 23 are my favorites of all my glocks. I ditched the babys for the full sized, BUT I don't/can't carry at my job and if I could would opt for the baby Glock for sure.

I hope I do. I paid for and did my paperwork on a 27 monday. I should be getting my new papers for it this monday. Wait its a holiday so day after. I cant wait. I made the mistake of getting a full size frame in my first glock and not that I dont like it but I would love to have a sub in the same cal. I have a 37 and would love it to shrink to a 39. With new yorks new BS that would keep them off my back. Also I am getting fat as I get older and cant hide this thing without a poncho. Will let you know how I like it when I get it. Oh wait I am in NY so I mean IF I GET IT.

I just shot my G26 today. Great gun -- though I do seem to be a little more accurate with the G19. I think the slightly longer sight radius helps.

G26 Gen 4 is probably my favorite overall Glock. You think you won't like the 2 finger grip but I feel like I can get just as good of a secure grip as a full size and shoot it just as well as the 19. Conceals easy and great that you can have a 17 rounder to reload with. It's not my primary choice at home, but would never feel outgunned if it was my only choice..especially with a 33 rounder in it :D

I do. The Glock 26 is my favorite by far. Every other Glock that I do own or have owned I can easily substitute something else from my safe for. Technically I could do without my 26s but I really would not want to. The way the 26 handles everything from WWB to 115 and 127 +P+ w/o serious felt recoil and great accuracy has everything to do with me buying a spare.

I have a 26 and 19 for EDC. The 26 does conceal easier but the 19 is so much more comfortable for me, that I much prefer it over the 26. I know most people on this board love the 26, but for me, it is not all that comfortable. Great gun, just not my favorite.

Yes, I prefer the Glock 27. It also can be a Glock 26, and Glock 19 or 23 with a shorter barrel, not to mention the 357 SIG.

I'm another who shoots the G26 better than the larger 9s for whatever reason. Since different folks have different opinions, I suspect that the fit of the various models to a given shooter's hand is the reason. I personally find the placement of the grip hump on the 17 to be a bit uncomfortable, and I don't shoot it as well as the 19, but there are plenty of folks (probably with bigger hands than mine) who feel the opposite.

Good thing we have choices, I would say.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. I think I was just caught up with wanting a Gen 4 G27. It's not like I really need it since I have the Gen 3 G27.

We use the G23 on my job, so I guess it makes sense to keep it. I also teach it as a firearms instructor for my Department.

G17 for IDPA but it's in the safe while I try to get used to my

I just got a 27 which is perfect for me, very easy to conceal. I have a maybe simple question....the guy at my LGS handed the 27 to me, instant decision. I had no reason to look further, the gun was made for me, price right and in my hand. That night, I spent time on the sites and see the Gen4 27. I'm totally happy, which is good, it's too late now, but what am I missing if anything?

G26 is an awesome gun! 10+1 rounds of +p hollow points and it hides wonderfully! The 19 is still my favorite (for it's all around versatility) but I almost think I'm a tiny bit more accurate with the 26. (And I have BIG hands) I prefer it with the flat bottomed factory mag. I love the way my pinky curls under so comfortably! My Kahr PM9 carries a bit easier, but I'd WAY rather have the 26 if something bad was happening!

It's all what you like. I love the baby glocks for CCW. I have compact models that carry more ammo but the baby just feels better in my hand. I have GAP floorplates and IMHO makes a huge difference. Just locks it into my hand and is easier to shoot.

I usually always get compacts of whatever handgun I decide to purchase unless it's a revolver though I am intrigued by the 3in revolvers, but I don't consider those "compact". I find that compacts is a good compromise for shoot-ability at the range while not being too big for CC.

My G27 gets more carry time than any other Glock I own. We have some pretty hot, humid temps here and the 27 just disappears under shorts and a light T-shirt. With a 13 round magazine on my offside, I feel perfectly well armed. Like so many others, I shoot my 27 better than my 23 or 22. I've had her for 14 years and have only reduced/stippled the grip and replaced the factory adjustable sights (yes, Glock put plastic ADJUSTABLE sights on a baby Glock) with 10-8 u-notch sights front and rear. With an endless supply of .40 from work, this Glock will probably be with me until the big Dirt Nap. Hell, I'll keep it with me then too!

When my plainclothes agency went to a mandated choice between an issued G19 or an issued G26, I had to shelve my long-serving G17. I experimented with both models, and found out what I was missing! The G19 was, for me, a better uniform gun (easier in-and-out of a patrol vehicle, and it fit my hands better). The G26 was a surprise, because I expected little better than a snub revolver. Instead, I found that the G26 handled every bit as well as the G19, and was a particularly great fit with a Pearce "pinky entender" floorplate installed on a 10-round mag. I also added a 12 round mag (10 rounder with a "+2" floorplate installed), a couple of G19 mags, and another 10 rounder with the "GAP" floorplate installed (that goes on the G26 when it rides in my DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster). I've even seen officers here and there with G26's in their G19 holsters (Safariland's 295).

Yep. I like the G26 for it's versatility and shootability relative to size. I've poured goodly amounts of "+P" duty ammo through it (and all of it's magazines), and never had a malfunction. It usually rides in a DeSantis 01L pancake holster, but I keep the pocket holster and GAP-equipped magazine in my field bag (along with extra loaded G19 mags and other necessary gear). I still like the G19 as a uniform duty gun (Gen2 only; thumbrests bother me on the Gen3 G19), but the G26 is my go-to gun for my primarily plainclothes duties (G26 thumbrests don't bother me).

Opie: I'm not really a 9mm fan (nor .40 for that matter as I've always been a .45ACP guy) but my next Glock will be a 26. Am afraid my wife might not let me keep it though, no kidding! But it'll be worth it to have another Glock in the family. :)

I have carried a G26 in the warmer months since 2006. The weapon is very accurate, low recoil and easy to carry concealed. I did add Pearce +O grip extenders to some of the mags. Before the G26 I had a G27 for a short time. I have nerve issues in my shooting hand and the recoil of the 27 did not work for me. There is a chance that I will carrying the G26 all the time and that would not be bad. My carry ammo with the G26 is Hornady Critical Defense. You have to carry whatever works for you.

Blast away!

Well, last week I added a Glock33 (.357 sig) to the rotation. Got it used but its in great shape and a very nice shooter. Now, how about a G30 or G36?

be a great back up or middle of S Florida summer for

Help me with this: Bought a new G26 3g yesterday. Got a call this AM that we had to qualify again. Packed my gear bag and headed for the range. Oops! Accidentally bagged the G26 (which I hadn't even shot yet) instead of my well-worn G19 w/3.5 connector. No time to go back home, so I shot the course (50 rd Daytime Semi-automatic Qualification Course) and actually passed the course, almost equaling my best G19 score.

Go figure.

I've read of lots of us shooters that do as well,
or even better, with sub compacts.

I enjoy shooting and ccw a g23, I can concealed it very well with a galco super tuck and I live in South Florida I wear Cargos and golf shorts all the time. When I jogging I do carry a S&W bodyguard .380. Looking for FDE G17 hoping next gun show coming to town I can pick one up.

I waited to post about my G27 after I shot it for the first time today. It's a great concealable pistol but I do recommend a grip extension for the magazine. My hands are made for the compact size. Still sub-compacts are great and hopefully I'll get used to it.

I Love both my G27 3gen and my G30SF 3gen. 27 for CCw and both EDC depending on my mood...LOL!!231210

Have to admit though, I am more accurate with the G30SF

I've enjoyed shooting any size Glock, I'd rather carry a subcompact though so those would be/are my first choice.

G26 is my personal favorite.
Here in sunny FL, I wear kakis and polos for the job and the 26 conceals very well.
Never feel under armed with it, really enjoy it and love it.

What belt do you prefer with shorts, as you well know most holster belts are huge and ugly, probably look bad with shorts... Recommendations?

I really like the 26 and the 19. Can't honestly say I like one over the other. The 30sf is sweet too. Just thicker. Oh , I do shoot the 26 every bit as good as the 19 . That, to me is what is so great about the "baby glocks" , they shoot like a big gun.

My EDC is a 39, but if I had to re-do it all over again....... Well, i'd still get a 39.. LoL. Once you realize though that it is the same carrying a 26,27,39 ect as it is carrying a larger 19,23, ect, you will want to go larger. I say it's the same and by that I mean "for me" since I use the pinky extension. The slide doesn't matter because that part tucks away anyway.
With that said, My next glock is most likely a 38. Yes, I'm a GAP guy. I actually wouldn't mind dabbling into the 10mm, but that's another topic.. Thanks for reading.

Had a gen 2 Glock 23 but never shot well with it. Traded it for a Glock 22. Gen 4. Shoot better with larger grip. The gun always worked but i did not like the grip.

Have you tried the Pearce +1 grip extension? It will make your magazines 10 rounds of .40, and you can get all three fingers on the grip. Here's my G26:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8498/8324856327_dafb5c2df4.jpg

That's exactly what I did for my Glock 26. Except I've the Pearce +2 extension. I couldn't get used to the two finger routine and this protuberance helps me quick draw my handgun far better than with the smaller standard 10 round magazine.

Good post.

I have a g3 19 and a g3 27 and like th 27 the best. I really like the way it fits my hand and I shoot tighter groups with the 27 than I do with the 19.

I've filtered through about 15 Glocks over the last 8-9 years and arrived at a Gen 4 Model 26 as my ONLY gun, so I'm definitely a believer. Accuracy? Check out last year's Complete Book of Handguns by Harris Outdoor, edited by Massad Ayoob. He has an article in there that goes into great detail about why the baby Glocks are the most accurate Glocks in a variety of calibers and I believe him.

Another couple reasons why I settled on the 9mm platform after carrying a G27 for most of my Glock experience ... less recoil for faster double taps, greater magazine capacity and firepower, and a great track record in law enforcement for stopping aggressors with the reasonably priced Federal 115 grain +P+ hollow points (9BPLE). Ayoob actually endorsed that load in combination with a G26, despite the short barrel. What more can I ask for?

Good post.

I had a hard time with the two finger grip until I installed a grip glove, now I prefer the stubby grip over the extensions. It doesn't twist around under recoil and it's MUCH easier to conceal without the extensions.

I have a pair of GAP floor plates on order, I'll see how I like those.

BTW, Can you actually get +2 capacity with the Pearce +2 bottoms? I can only get +1 with them, and can't get more than +2 with the +3's. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. I did notice that the +3 Pearce protrudes exactly as far as a Glock factory +2 base.

I have a 26, a 19, and a 17. All of them shoot very well-better than I do...Today I bought a Gen4 model 30. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm certainly looking forward to it! The only downside I have is that someone put a Hickok45 video of Hickok shooting-and really enjoying it-the Glock 30S. He said it also fits his holsters for the 9mm's. I'm now envious about another Glock. You just can't beat the Glocks. They're accurate, easy to operate, and they work under about any conditions. I am convinced that you could confidently bury it in a sandbox, dig it out, dunk it in a rainbarrel, shake it off, and go bulls' eye shooting. My agency/department has been using them for at least the past 10-12 years, and they've been great.

I like Glocks, period. Sub-compact G27 for warm weather CCW. Compact G23, G32 or G36 for cooler weather CCW. They are all reliable and damn accurate. I choose the gun that best fits the particular situation at the time. And I fear no evil, for my Glock is with me

I flip-flop on my favorite... but generally, the 26/27/33 is my favorite, considering how easily they carry and shoot. I conceal compacts just fine, but the sub-compacts just feel like it's not even there. The compact isn't visible, but I always know it's there.

I'm with you on this. I've got mine narrowed down to G29,G30,G33. The only way to fly.

Well, the 27 can do all that in 40 cal and 9mm, with the conversion barrel. I would call that more flexible.

I wouldn't say I prefer it, I'd say I prefer it based on the situation. I still really like my Gen 3 Glock 22. But, for conceal carry, you can't beat a subcompact... They disappear. The right holster has a lot to do with that.

Yeppir. I agree entirely; in fact, the ONLY gun I own any more is a Gen 4 Model 26 with nearly 500 flawless round downrange in the last six months. I landed just 12 seconds shy of Expert in SSP division of the IDPA Classifier last month and hope to make Expert next weekend, so it's hard to challenge the speed of double taps OR the accuracy on those 20-yard shots from behind the barricade.
