for a gen 4 23 or possibly gen 4 30 or 30sf.

I like the gun and would like to keep it, but I want a larger caliber and don't have the money to purchase a new one without first getting rid of the 19.

I love the size of the 19/23 platform and since I already have holsters for my 19 that I could use with the 23 it would make more sense to get the 23.

On the other hand, I have shot my buddy's gen 3 30 and shot better with it than I did my 19.(go figure) That has me wanting to get a 30, but with my smaller hands the gen 4 or the sf model would be better. I have never shot a .40, but I know with enough practice it wouldn't be that big of a deal to get used to it.

My decision seems to be coming down to ammo availability and cost. In my area .40 seems to always be sitting on shelves long after the 9mm and .45 have all been purchased. I think the cost difference on average between them is around $2-5 per 50 rounds.(not a huge deal until you start purchasing larger amounts) But I can't overlook the availability of the .40.

What would you guys do?:dunno:

I would make sure that I was holding my new larger caliber pistol before I let go of the 19. I dont think you will have any problemselling the 19.

Oh I agree with you there. It is my ccw pistol so I don't want to let it go until I have my new one or at least only a day or so before I can get my hands on it.

I am just putting out feelers right now to see if anyone is interested in buying it because my LGS quoted me "upwards of $400" for it when I paid him $600 otd only a year ago for it.

I got rid of my 17 for a 32 (and a 23 barrel) and I regret it. Don't get me wrong I love the .357 sig round and .40 and have a vast stock piles of it. I just miss having a 9mm glock.

So in my case I would suggest just saving and buying a G23 or 30 when you have the funds. For me money isn't an issue with firearms with the cost of ammo. I have enough ammo to equal the cost 4 nib glocks. I plan on getting another 17 in the not so distant future.

I also suggest just ordering lots of ammo or reloading so your not looking at empty store shelfs.

Gen 4 are going out the door for $599 at my local LGS and the 19 is very popular. I would think that you could get at least $500 for it now. I have seen adverts on armslist.com for $600. Check Gunbroker.com to see what they are going for there.

I am thinking of getting the 23 and then a .40-9 conversion barrel to have both in one gun.

The thought of reloading has me still wanting to get the 30 that I know I shoot well, but that is another cost in itself.

I may end up waiting too though as I'm not really needing another gun, more or less wanting really bad.

I am asking $550 for mine. I think that is fair considering it only has around 500 rounds through it and I only got it about a year ago.

DON'T DO IT!!!! Take the time and save for the next purchase. I don't believe you'll ever regret keeping the 19. If you do decide to trade, sell the 19 outright--it will sell quickly because of it's popularity. Don't trade it in for less than it is worth.

G30 is great, my favorite!
With that said, 45 ammo is not cheap as 9mm.
An option would be go rent a G23 glock, see if you like it
You could get a G23 and buy a 9mm barrel,357 barrel and 9mm mags and have 3 guns in one for not too much money with out buying 3 guns.
G30 only shoots 45 ammo and its not as cheap as the 9 or 40.
I shoot a lot more 9mm ammo then the others.

Wish I had a nice shop around here to rent guns, but no luck. I don't have any doubt that I couldn't get used to any round as long as I practice with it.

The versatility of the 23 is what is leading me toward purchasing it. As you said, 3 guns in one platform is a pretty neat thing.

Sorry, I am more partial to the gen 4 due to the smaller back straps and larger mag release.

Besides I don't think I would do a trade unless it was local.

Tell you the truth, I didn't think about the 3 guns in one otherwise I would have got the G23 instead of the G19. Ugh

Haha, that is what I am kicking myself for right now. I didn't find out about all the conversion stuff until after I got my 19, but it didn't really bother me at the time because I wanted a 9mm anyways.

Now that I want to try my hand at some larger calibers, I am feeling the pain of not getting the 23.

Oh well, live and learn I guess.

I'm just impatient and want it now!

I guess all the panic buying lately has me in a frenzy.:embarassed:

I saw the 19 selling for just under $800 on GB the other day....looks like it's the most wanted handgun on the market today. I would hold on to it until you find another sidearm that you are comfortable using it as your new CCW. Like mentioned above, go to a range and try a few out before you do something you may regret later. IMHO.
