So I've been lurking for a long time and post from time to time. Over time I've compiled 10 opinionated principals concerning firearms. Some are serious. Some are not. Tell me where I'm wrong or where you agree.aybe I left out how Sig has too much time on their Hands and should have stopped at 73 models but it didn't make the list. So here goes:

Bobs firearm principals:
1) The 1911 is America's handgun. AND it should be a .45
2) Revolvers should have hammers and no one will make fun of your nickel plated hand cannon if it says "magnum".
3) Beretta 92s (and variants) should be black.
4) There is no reason to carry less than a 38 spl.
5) Everyone should have at least one full size black plastic 9mm.
6) A G20 is a lot more than "1 more" than a G19
7) Elk calibers start with a "3" or end with "mag"
8). There is no such thing as an "accidental discharge". Only a "negligent discharge". Yes, I'm guilty too.
9) The "S" will never "hit the fan" so climb out of your cellar and face the world . You don't NEED to stockpile 5,000 rounds of 5.56 in loaded mags. If you want to that's another matter.
10) Teach your children about guns early so they respect and fear them. *That said keep them locked up because they're kids.

Amen, Bob. But I do have an Inox Beretta 92 FS.

That's for you to enjoy. I just think they are supposed to be black!

1) The 1911 is America's handgun. AND it should be a .45

Agreed.

2) Revolvers should have hammers and no one will make fun of your nickel plated hand cannon if it says "magnum".

The first part I disagree with. I'd rather have a "hammerless" snubbie and exposed hammers on any other wheelgun. On the second note I agree, though revolvers should be blue or stainless.

3) Beretta 92s *(and variants) should be black.

Disagree. The Inox 92 is iconic in its own right.

4) There is no reason to carry less than a 38 spl.

Agreed

5) Everyone should have at least one black plastic 9mm.

Agreed, but understand why some would skip it.

6) A G20 is a lot more than "1 more" than a G19

Agreed. The G19 is one of the most overrated pistols of all time.

7) Elk calibers start with a "3" or end with "mag"

Disagree. I have bagged elk with a Marlin .45/70 with open sights. Much more challenging and sporting in my opinion than sniping from a few hundred yards away.

8). There is no such thing as an "accidental discharge". Only a "negligent discharge". Yes, I'm guilty too.

Agreed.

9) The "S" will never "hit the fan" so climb out of your cellar and face the world . You don't NEED to stockpile 5,000 rounds of 5.56 in loaded mags. If you want to that's another matter.

I disagree about "never," because that is a long time. I have 300 rounds of 5.56 in mags and have for four years now. Funny thing is I probably wouldn't grab for the AR if something bad were going down.

10) Teach your children about guns early so they respect and fear them. *That said keep them locked up because they're kids.

Agreed.

I like seeing people put their thoughts out there. I feel no compulsion to disagree.

I may not quite agree with all of them in detail but it would still rate as an "A+" in my book

Thanks for the comments guys. One point of clarification. When I said "elk calibers start with a 3" I was thinking anything in ascending order 3 and up is good to go. 30-30 .35 rem mag 45-70. It's all good. Kudos on the close in 45-70. My first interest is archery so I like to get up close and hear em breath first.

If anyone has an issue with (1) tell me where your choice was during WWI WWII Lorea and Vietnam. If its the 45acp part... I just don't see the point of a heavy steel framed simgle stack 9mm. Thats why we should have light weight plastic high capacity plastic guns.

My "truck gun" is most often a 45-70 because if, for some reason, I have to stop my truck, get out and shoot something, I want it to stay shot.
