Are the slide rails on an ACP wider than a GAP?

If 38 slide and 30 slide are same width AND a

36 slide will fit on a 30 frame,

and this 38 slide fits on this 27 frame.......

WHY wouldn't a G36 slide fit on a G39 (26, 27,33) frame if you keep the GAP barrel?:dunno:

(I fired a whole 7 round magazine of 45 GAP through this set up with Zero hiccups.)

I asked this question several different ways on different forums yesterday, and no one knew (or wanted to answer) except that 36 barrel lugs might not fit the subcompact frame.

But if you kept the 38 barrel, that would not be an issue.

The only question would be whether the 36 slide would fit on the subcompact (26,27,33,39) frame.

Surely someone has tried?

A 39 mag, and a short dust cover (the 36 slide is 6mm shorter than the 38), and we'd have the "unattainable .45 caliber Glock, with a standard grip, narrow slide - ALMOST the same dimensions as a G26!

I know there's gotta be a reason it won't work!

You're putting a G38 barrel in a G36 slide?

I would expect it to be right dangerous due to the difference in the length of the ACP barrel hood and the GAP hood.

Unfortunately, I don't have my G36 right now to confirm it.

Thanks, Butch! That would be the "Revoltin' development" I hadn't anticipated. Longer ejection port for a longer case, makes sense.

Plan B: Ream out a G27 slide to fit the G39 barrel?

Probably the same reason all the 45 slides are wider. But if a 36 slide will fit on a 30, why can't a narrower 26/27/33 slide fit on a 39?

Um.....they do.....they do it a lot.....the G39 frame is the same as the 26/27/33 frames. :)

Fact is, the original plan was to use a G17 sized slide on the G37 instead of the bigger .45 sized slides, but before production started they went with the bigger slide.

I've not asked them why....recoil control maybe?

I would not expect a G38 or G39 barrel to fit in a G27 slide....if that's what you're thinking to try.....nor would the GAP cartridge.

If a machinist reamed out the barrel port to fit a .45 barrel?

How much WIDER is a G36 SLIDE than a G27 SLIDE?

am I missing something here - Uh.. Besides a few grey cells?

:)

The barrel hood and cartridge rim have to fit in the breechface....both of which are about one silly millimeter bigger on the .45.

I suspect that if it was reasonably possible to use the smaller slide with the GAP round, Glock would certainly have done it.

G36 slide is slimmer. It weighs more due to length.

Interesting picture. Both of my Glock 45 autos have the caliber marked on the ame side as your 45 Gap marking. Is that a newer gun?

The whole inside of the slide would have to be done. I got my G37 (Gen4) and my G23 out to measure and try to insert the G37 barrel into.

The outside diameter of the GAP barrel is about .628", and the inside G23 slide opening (not the barrel port, it's even smaller) is about .614". The GAP barrel doesn't even start to enter the .40 slide.

Yup, the one on the left is a Gen4 G21....prefix SHE (Dec 2011)....the newest Glock I have.

Dang, it's been a year since I got a new Glock!

Please pardon my persistence, but then how can a G36 slide be narrower than a G27's if a .45 barrel won't fit inside a 27 slide?

I just did a quick check of my G23 barrel in my 36 slide and 36 barrel in my 32 slide. The 36 slide is slimmer outside and wider inside. My 36 barrel hood is just barely too wide to fit in the 32 slide and, as Butch pointed out, the barrel diameter is to fat to fit through the hole at the muzzle of the 32 slide.

I wish I had my G36 here to measure for you. I can only guess that the G36 slide and/or barrel are not as 'massive' as the same GAP parts (and the same .40 parts?) due to the difference in chamber pressure?

I've done no research on the subject as I have little interest in doing so, but I would not fire a .45 Super in a G36.....probably wouldn't even use .45+P in one.

My calipers tell me the G27 slide is 15.5 mm inside, while my G38 barrel is 15.6 mm.

But the 36 slide has thinner walls, right?

So if I could machine out about .06 mm from each side of the G27 slide, a G38 barrel would fit in there.

As our downstate friends say, "fuggedaboudit!". I'll just stick with my G27 AND G38.

You mean to tell there are people out there that have the GAP? I thought it was only a legend.

It's only a legend if you listen to GAPophobes (http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/blog.php?b=283).

Some of us have more than one even! :)
