What was your first brand-new, store-bought gun, when did you buy ir and how much did you pay?

Mine was a Remington 760 in 30-06, bought in 1974 at Value House in Bangor, Maine. I'd picked a lot of potatoes to pay for that bugger.... Think it was $119. Dad had to buy it (strawman?) as I was 16. No deer for me that year, but got one in '77.

Still feel like an idiot for selling it...

What was yours and do you still have it??

Tucson 1977. I had turned 21 and walked into a sporting goods store where I had previously checked out their firearms. Picked out a 6" blue Dan Wesson, paid for (was about $157 with tax as memory serves) then walked out with it. The good ole days.

About 20 yrs ago I added the 4" hvy barrel and the grips.

The first "new" gun I ever bought for myself, was a Star Starfire M40. I paid $410-420 OTD. Traded it to a life long buddy for a bar he built for my gameroom. He still has it and I still shoot it. :)

Spring 1972 , I was thirteen I had worked all summer and fall mowing lawns, doing landscapping and up on roofs cleaning gutters plus helping Dad build a house. I saved up what money I didn't spend on ammo shooting Dad's .22 to buy my own. K-mart was new in the area but the gun counter guy had promised me they were going to have the Marlin 60 on sale in the spring. They did and I got it, Dad signed for it.

That fall, since I hadn't misused it the family greed to let my maternal Grandfather give me a 5 digit (nobody knew it was collectable back then) Ruger Standard Auto. 4 years later I saved up again and drug Dad to the LGS where he signed for a brand new Colt Series 70 Gvt Model

My father gave me my first gun. A Ithica model 72 saddle gun made in W. Germany. They were only made from 1972 to 1978. I have read the Henry 22lr today was designed after it.

I guess my father got me into guns. For several years he would buy me a gun for my B-day or Christmas.

He got me the Ithica I think it was $79.
He got me a Ruger single six $99
He got me a Rossi .38 $79
He got me a Ruger Security Six .357 6' SS $199
He got me a Remington Wingmaster 870 I do not remember the price. Also a Marlin 336 30-30.

I remember buying ammo from a LGS and I was not old enough to drive. He bought all these for me between the age of 14 and 18. What would the media and the libs say about that today. All those guns and I never commited a crime or went on a shooting spree. That was in the 1970's and no one made a big deal about it.

Ruger Single Six Convertable, was bought for me, in my mame,
by my Uncle, when I was 7 weeks old. So, on paper, that would be my 1st.

The first gun I actually bought & paid for was a 2nd Gen Glock 17.
Was bought in Montana in 1994, paid $360 and change. Some
fargin icehole stole it & some other valuables in '96

All my friends had model 60's. I remember wanting one because it was a semi. I had a Ithica model 72 that was a leaver action. Now days the Ithica is worth much more than a Marlin would be. At the time I thought a semi was so cool.

My first was a Model 29 Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum with the 8 3/8 inch barrel in blue. Had to wait a year to get it because S&W was backlogged in 1973 because of the Dirty Harry movies. Honestly I cannot remember the price but I think it was around $300.00+ Still wish I had it!

My first brand new firearm was in the summer of 1994. It was a Colt Sporter Match HBAR and I paid $750. I still have it. My first new handgun was a Beretta 92FS for IIRC $450, also in 1994. I still have it, too. That was right before the Clinton AWB.

Santa bought me my first new gun in 1966. An Ithaca M-66 "Supersingle" 20ga single-shot.

The first gun I ever picked out for myself and paid for was a Sears-Roebuck double 12 ga. A rebranded Stevens 311, it had 30 in barrels choked mod/full, and cost $79.95 in the Sears-Roebuck catalog. My mother called the Sears store and ordered it, a brown canvas hunting coat, and a couple of boxes of shells in those "pre GCA-68" days. That would have been about July...August of 1967. Sears truck delivered it to the house a couple of days later. I would have been about 15 I guess.

First one I ever went into a store and bought for myself, was a Winchester 12 ga pump gun. What were they? Model 1300? 1200? I forget. It had a rifle sight slug barrel I remember, and I bought it at the long gone Red-Ford and Sons sporting goods store in Richmond (Va.). I THINK I paid $129.00 for it. No idea when it was, but it would have been about 72-73 I guess.

First handgun was a 4" Model 19. I don't really remember when I bought it, but I got it from another long gone dealer in Chesterfield County. It was around $250.00.

First gun was a Remington 1100 as a Christmas gift when mom and dad not got Citori's for each other.
My first purchase was a Glock 19 Gen 4 in early Jan, 2013. 😊 Paid $549 + tax at a LGS.

BTW, those Brownings are coming my way this weekend. Mom and dad don't hunt any longer. Good day for me!

S&W 459 in about 1987. Foolishly sold my Colt Lawman MK III so I could get a crappy DA/SA S&W and be one of those modern 9mm carrying cops. In 1988 I traded it in on a Colt King Cobra (never as good as the Lawman) so I could go back to being one of those old-fashioned revolver carrying cops.

My first gun was a Savage model 72. I was 12. Back then i could jump on my bike go into town and buy my own ammo at the hardware store. It was a 3-4 hr trip so i would get as meany rounds as i could carry. At least 3-250 round boxes.

I still have that gun. It looks just like it did on day one. My gun smith looked down the barrel and estimated that there have been 20k rounds through it. He is probably right. 231053

My first "new" gun was a Ruger 10/22 my Dad gave me in 1970 after I passed the NRA Hunters Safety course. Not sure what he paid for it, I still have it.

The first "new" gun I ever bought was in 1974. It was a Remington 870 Wingmaster, 12 gauge, 28" ribbed barrel just like my Grandpa had. I bought it at a popular (back then) sporting goods store we had in Phoenix called Yates on 40th Street and Thomas. I don't have that shotgun anymore as I sold it when my Grandfather passed away and I got his 870 that I had always coveted.

What was yours and do you still have it??

Do you count gun shows as "store-bought"?

If so mine would be my Norinco Type 56S bought in April of 1988 at a gun show here in Fort Lauderdale. Price was $350 OTD. It came with the box and three 30-round mags. It is STILL my go-to rifle!!!

If not then I would have to say a Colt Government .380 bought at Oshman's (sp?) also in Fort Lauderdale, not sure of year or price. I traded it away years ago:crying:

I had several guns, rifles and shotguns already but they were either purchased used or were hand me downs from my grandfather or uncle.

The first firearm I purchased brand spanking new was my Interarms Walther PPK in .380. I needed a BUG (I was carrying an issued Ruger Security Six) and the PPK fit the bill along with a Bianchi Shoulder Rig.

Soon after I purchased a brand new S&WM686 which served me well for many years. But the award for the first goes to the PPK.

Can't remember the exact year but my best friend and I decided to buy a pair of Remington 1100's in the late 70's. We went into Edelman's Sporting Goods in Farmingdale, NY and bought 2 guns, Red Ball waiters, Woolrich jackets, ammo and we were in the duck hunting business on the bays of the south shore of LI. Leslie Edelman had the best sporting goods dealership on the Island back in the day. They are no longer in business but if you recognize the name he is the owner of Kimber today.

I'd bought and sold several used long guns as a teenager. Legal without any parents signature in those days in my state.

First new gun that I bought with my own hard earned money, was a S&W model 19 with a 6 inch barrel. Walked into a West Texas hardwire store, paid cash, and walked out the door with the revolver and a cash register receipt. None of those silly background checks either.

I've still got it and it's had many thousands of rounds of ammo through it. If memory serves me correctly, I paid about 120 bucks for it.

My first was a Colt Government Model 1911A1 in 1969. I earned the money washing dishes after school and weekends at a pancake restaurant in Albuquerque, NM. My first gun purchase was in 2003, I was in grad school and worked at a bank and we were robbed. It was the 2nd time I had been robbed at gunpoint and even though I was never really anti-gun I was more ambivalent.

So I did some research and then went to Academy and bought a Ruger P90.

Since then I've become a bit of a gun nut but I still have that P90. Shoots great and if I run out of ammo I still have a heck of a club!

In 1966 I took most of my high school graduation money and bought a new Ruger Single Six convertible .22/..22WMR handgun. If memory is correct, I believe it was close to $90. I passed this on to my son. A few months later I bought a Ruger Bearcat .22 handgun new for around $40, which I traded because I didn't think I could shoot it very well. Hindsight is 20/20. I don't think I had to fill out any papers for these two guns either.

My first purchased weapons as an adult were 4 Chinese made SKS rifles bought at a feed and grain store in New Madrid, Missouri back in 1994. They had them on a pallet next to the checkout counter with the whole kit for the princely sum of 39.95 each.

Four days later I walked through the Memphis airport to baggage checkin with a handtruck carrying them and 3000 rounds of Soviet can ammo, if I remember correctly the extra cost for being overweight exceeded what I paid for the ammo.

Not counting person to person purchases, pawnshop and gun show purchases, the first brand new out of a retail store purchase I made was in November at Bass Pro for a Browning Buckmark Practical .22LR.

Sold that POS shortly after getting it. Sold it for what I had in it.

First new revolver - S&W mdl 19-4. October/November 1979.
Paid $247.95+ tax.
Rosewood stocks, RR/WO.
Still have it.

I added a TH/TT after it returned from S&W for the new barrel, and bought a set of Goncalo Alves stocks for it.

I tried to decide for a couple of weeks, whether I wanted the 19-4 for "$250" or buy a Colt Python 4" for $335.00 + tax.
At the time, I couldn't justify the additional $$$ for the Python.

Coulda had a mdl 25-5, or a 27 (don't remember the dash #) for less than $350.00.
A mdl 28 was $265.00.
