This week I stopped by the LGS to look at shotguns and walked out with my first 1911. It's comfortable in my hand, the slide is very smooth, trigger is crisp, fiber optic site, two magazines and it looks looks good. The only concern I have is the rear adjustable sites don't have the alignment dots I'm used to but I'll work that out.

I got it early part of this last week along with a holster and was planning to go out today to put some rounds through to get feel for it. Last night I decided to break it down to make sure it was lubed and well heck, I like tinkering with guns.

In the process of reassembling the recoil spring plug flew off while trying to put it together. In the hunt for this little guy I completely tore apart the garage looking in every nook and cranny but it did not want to be found. But at least my garage is very clean and organized now.

So now I have to find a replacement for the plug and while looking for it I saw numerous youtube videos on various recoil springs and an wondering if I should go ahead and spring for a spring even before ever shooting the gun or just get the plug by itself.

And this brings me to another question, are all plugs equal besides aesthetic qualities? My barrel is 5 inches but am not sure if that makes a difference on the size of the plug.

And finally where do you recommend looking for 1911 parts? Are the usual brownells or midwayusa a good source?

Below is what the gun looked like before...without the spring hanging out of the front.

Very nice.........pm me your address.
There are government & commander plugs. Any plug for a 5" will be fine.
Brownells, Midway USA are my normal parts suppliers. Send you a Springfield plug. Nothing special, but will get you back shooting until one comes in.

Congrats, your story reminds me of mine, I saw where my plug went but it landed behind a custom bolted down to the wall bedroom set, I recovered the plug when we moved from that house :rofl:nice looking R-1 BTW.
