Miyamoto Musashi, "In short, the Way of the Ichi school is the spirit of winning, whatever the weapon and whatever its size."

It's not the gun, or knife, or club, or even 'flare gun'.

You are the weapon, all else is incidental.

I always like the goofy stuff these guys do, it's fun and interesting.
I kinda winced seeing him stand so close to the 1/2" wood when shooting it with the flare, though.

Although there is a lot of chatter on the internet about something non standard causing legal problems, I'd wonder about that in this case.

Police use conventional firearms and from a legal standpoint (I'm certainly no lawyer), I'd think you wouldn't want to try a flare gun. Don

Why would you want to carry an overly large, unsighted, single shot pistol in 45 long colt or 410?

Albeit flares work well as bear deterrents.

Also, dumb of them to advocate #4 bird shot in 410 as a legitimate SD loading.

I'd assume the flare gun is for people who don't have a choice, like DC residents or New Yorkers.

Since they add the adapter and make it a regular firearm, what would that do Bren?

"We had one flyer, but for a defensive waepon, whaddayawant?"

It's a single shot flare gun. You have a flyer, you're dead. Hahaha! These guys are too funny.

Horrible personal defense gun. Even more horrible with .410 bird shot.

I do think that .45LC/.410 insert would make excellent company with a survival kit. Flare to help get found, and the .410 for hunting small game.

The flare gun would go well with the can of wasp spray as defensive tools. If that's what you have, that's what you use.

If that insert isn't rifled, it might not even be a "regular" firearm.

Shotguns are not required to be rifled to be considered firearms...

Secondly, every one of the ones I found on the Internet clearly says installation into a flaregun constitutes making it a firearm.

is it the optimal choice? no.

is it a hell of a lot better than nothing?

it's basically a 12 guage tracer round. and i don't think i'd want to take one in the face.

The flare gun to pistol conversion brings to mind the world war 2 liberator pistol concept. A single shot pistol that was a last resort.

Goofy guys, interesting topic

I've got the same 12 ga. Flare gun, but somehow mine doesn't create quite as much recoil as these guys experienced

Just sayin

Someone last year took a flare to the face.

Ouch! Hope he recovered.

"Flare guns are not considered firearms in the state of California."
Are they now?

Better than throwing rocks, and I imagine you can CC it without a permit if you keep the pieces separate. In parts of Cali it could be your only choice.

AK_Stick
02-13-2013, 09:56
If you were so badly worried that you've taken to CCing a flare pistol, maybe it's time to move?

Seriously if a single shot gun you have to assemble to use is your self defense tool of choice Ho realistic do you think that is?

Hold on, I gotta put my gun together.

If it's a smoothbore firearm with less than an 18" barrel it probably needs a stamp. That was my point.

There is a currently active thread about some guy who bounced a burning flare off the ground into a sensitive part of his anatomy.

I believe anything that fires an object of any kind thru a barrel of any kind or length in the state of Calif. is considered a firearm. I'm not exactly sure which law it is among the many confusing laws and regs we have here but i'm pretty sure a flare gun is covered in that law.
