I am able to be #19 on a list for Colt 6920LE for MSRP which is currently $1200. Should I take the plunge now and wait for the gun to come in following the 18 people in front of me or should I still wait a month or two? Will the MSRP drop in the following months as things die down?

if I were you I would do it as soon as possible, just in case :-)

$1200 for a new colt is not bad. Probably not getting cheaper.

I'd wait, the AR panic around here is subsiding

I paid $1100 for the one I had, and that wasn't bad before the current stupidity. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had $1200.

Are you asking if the price on the Colt is going to come down below the $1200 MSRP? Not sure I am understanding your question, that was the MSRP before the panic and is still the MSRP. My WM still gets them in for $1097 so $1200 is not bad at all. I've bought two for $1176 tax included in last 8 months.

Yeah. I'm asking if the MSRP will go down. And also is it an ok idea to be put at #19 on a waiting list or should I Just wait till stock returns?

My wife is from a small town East of Dallas, TX. When we visit I always check out the guns at Walmart. They started carrying Colt AR's in the past year or two. I think it was a 6920, but with a new style hand guard. I'm not positive on the model. It was $1098.00.
I have not been back the past few months to see if they still have it, but they always had one in stock.

It's different where I am from. There are never ARs in walmarts here. There are hardly any guns at Walmart and few have small amount of ammo.

$1200 is not bad for a new Colt 6920.
I seriously doubt the price will go down enough to justify waiting.

The chances of the price going up or the gun becoming illegal or out of production far outweigh the chance that if you buy it now you'll pay too much.

I'd rather pay too much now, versus not being able to even buy the gun later.

Put your name on the list, but continue to look for one from another source.
If you find one, buy it.

It does not hurt anything to be on the list. When they call to tell you it's in and you don't want it they will just move down the list.
I would get on the list.

I would also recommend getting on the list and paying the $1200 for it.

I've been looking around online for the Colt at area Walmarts, and none are ever there. I'm now thinking the Sig-Sauer M400 with prismatic scope is a good alternate. It's Walmart part# 0079868144115.
If either one was available, I'd be happy, but I've a feeling it will be a long wait before I see one.

I paid $1200 for my LE6920 before this latest insanity hit. Not a bad price in my humble opinion. MSRP hasn't changed.

Buy it. I went into a shop looking for mags for my Glocks in the morning. I looked on the wall and he just got 4 Colt M4's all LE6920. $1,800 out the door each. I passed. At 3PM I went back to see if the UPS truck came with the Glock Mags. He had 1 Colt M4 left. I bought it. I look at it this way. I paid a couple of hundred more, I wanted the real deal a Colt LE6920. One left, how could I pass again. I feel the AWB is coming back. The Black rifle is like the Tommy gun of the 20s. Its got a bad name.

1st, being #19 on some list means absolutely nothing. It's just your LGS trying to get money out of you, while you wait and wait and wait and wait.

2nd, just go to friggin' Walmart and find one for $1100.00

That might take you some time, but it will be faaaaaar faster and cheaper.

Go to walmart. Like I said before there is no walmart around here that sells guns. You have that as a luxury where your from.

And I did talk to the gun department manager and he had no clue why I was told I was #19 for a list and that there was no list. He said he could order one for me and let me know when it comes in but he has no clue when it will be.

get on the list, when your number comes up, if you have one already, say no thanks and the next guy is up. doubt the MSRP will change anytime soon.

Ok, so I took the plunge and put half down on a LE6920MP-B. The people/store told me I can have a full money back return if I find a local store with what I want and I want to cancel my order with them. So, that gives me some more confidence placing an order with them and now I'm on a waiting list, yahoo! Now to patiently wait and stock up on ammo and mags. Thanks for all the input fellas I'll keep everyone informed as to my success.

The last one I came across around here was $1500. At $1200 I'd jump on it. It won't be getting any cheaper.

(Good luck finding any deals on ammo for it though!)

OK, legit question, not a troll...

I panic-bought a converted Saiga AK which is in 7.62. That makes sense as a rifle round to me. What don't I know about the .223 that will make me plunk down twice as much for a hopped up .22???

I seen small boxes of 556 Winchester today for $12 a box. I'm not sure how many were in the box but I'm guessing 10. Does that sound about right? How much has ammo prices increased since the AWB scare?

I would pay that. Mine was $1167 after tax at Wal-mart. LE 6920

Should have been 20. I'm sure some people are trying to sell WWB 5.56 for $1+ a round, but that's a little excessive.

It seems like the price used to be around $.40 a round, now it's $.50-$.60

Ok. I wasn't sure as I don't have much experience with 556 size and/or box sizes. And the place I was at is a super friendly place that takes care of its customers well. I did grab 8 boxes of 5 (40 total) 00 buck shot for $40. Where most places would have only allowed 3 boxes recently.

Well, I have, and therefore my question. The 5.56 came into popularity for two reasons, lighter weight and the ability to tumble and create increased wound damage. What the round CANNOT do is penetrate anything other than a body, or perform at distance, so M14s are being issued in Afghanistan.

Again, I am working off ignorance, hence the questions...is the premium charged for an AR platform based on it being a superior weapon for a superior round or because the AR platform is the focus of attention at the moment?

And, just so this is stated up front, I have limited experience with the AR, but a fair amount with the M14 and increasingly with the AK/7.62 -Ruger M30/Saiga.

Thanks for enlightenment!

A Colt LE6920-MP (or whatever the suffix is for magpul) is well worth $1,200 even in the 6-months-ago market.

If you are looking for a high quality M4/AR15 type rifle, and you can get one at that price (cross your fingers) do it and don't look back.

The platform (AK vs AR) differs more than the typical cartridges (5.56x45 vs 7.62x39) IMO.

If you want an AK, go with your AK.

If you want to discuss the differences between the AK an AR platforms, I suggest a post in the General Firearms forum. You can link it here to get input from the people in this thread, though. Might be helpful.

If you want to discuss 7.62x39 vs 5.56x45, I suggest the Caliber Corner section. While there are surely a whole bunch of threads and posts about that topic already, you may as well start another one. If nothing else, people will search for you and link the old threads so you can do some some solid reading.

I was a hair from buying a Colt or BCM in the very hours before sandy hook, literally supposed to buy later that very day... I'd buy a Colt for that price myself if the ammo situation wasn't so disturbed... The lack of, or lack of affordable ammo has just about sent me packing from this corner of the market...

7.62 x 39 will go through trees, cars, houses, vests, etc.

.223 will not.
