View Full Version : Slotted grip screws.
Are all slotted grip screws created equal? The grip screws on my knives and RO are gun show cheapies, they had a big tub full of them and I bought enough. I see that Wilson is getting 18 bucks and 10-8 is getting 12 bucks, I'm just wondering if they are worth the extra bucks:headscratch:
I like the 10-8 that have the concave slot that a shell casing rim fits into.
Not that I ever see myself using a case rim to remove it but simply because it copies the original screws that were designed for the 1911's by Browning.

There are different qualities of steel & finishing.
When you get into screws sold by top name makers like that. They are probably all close to the same quality wise. It's when you run into the gun-show specials and junk parts makers like John Masen that you have substandard materials going into the part.
I would never pay the price for Wilson screws as that's just ridiculous. However you can still get high quality parts from Cylinder and Slide for about 5 bucks a set through Midway.
The best ones are the screws cut to accept the hollow ground screwdriver.

C&S are good as it gets
I need to get some for the new 1911s around here because one of the joys of the 1911 is that it is its own tool kit. I hate hex screws. I was taught to use the toe of a GI mag.
I plan on replacing the hex on my Kimbers and inlet a space under the grips for the little paperclip tool used on the 2 piece guide rods.

Yep...
I picked up several sets of the blued ones, and a couple of the stainless ones to replace some chromed screws on a Springfield. The blued ones were nicely polished and blued and the stainless screws were highly polished as well.
Nice threading and a nice looking face.
This is the best pic I have.
