That is so nice! I just bought the government size last month. The commander looks like it would be a nice carry piece.

Congrats man

Nice good luck with it.Glad you found one right away I looked & waited for my SR1911 full size almost a year to finally find a Dist. That had them in stock.? The Commander model is cool & its only about a 3/4 " shorter than the full size model.? I have no Prob caring the full size one it every day.?

Full size 1911 always seem clumsy to me..granted I know several folks who wouldn't carry anything else but to each their own...and that is the factory safety..

Where did you get those grips? I have been looking for something like that for awhile.

Congrats on your score !

I grabbed one a few weeks back and have about 600 rds down the pipe, and while it is no where as accurate as my Baers or Browns,it has only choked once (on CRITICAL DEFENSE 185GR) with a beater range magazine.

I really believe the thing would feed a garbage can down the pipe !

Mine is wearing VZ FRAGS to give a more grippy texture but those wood grips of yours look sweet!

Ye! Everything I have read about this gun has it as being more like a higher tiered gun. So didn't mind to much. The gun dealer here can't get what u want if they do its luck. And the other thing that that helped my feelings was I went to a gun show today and I saw a bushmaster carbon 15 with a $1800.00 price tag. Faint

Thanks..been trying to take it to the range but everytime I get ready to go...something else pops up..but planning on taking to work and hitting the range at lunch ( great way to vent in the middle of the afternoon lol)..and see how she shoots. Back before Xmas I purchased a new S&W SC1911E which I still have not been able to shoot and looking forward to shooting it as well...

The Grips are factory which can be purchased from Rugerstore..Pretty nice selection of stuff...

I want a commander in a bad way. Cabelas has these right now - for $799. Surprisingly, they're remaining in stock.

Congrats on that. Those grips are killer. I finally saw in person my first SR1911 and SR1911 Commander yesterday (2-23-2013) at a place in Clearwater, Fl. I think it was $799.00 for the 5" and $829.00 for the Commander.

Great looking Commander !

Thanks. Expecting more snow so it looks like it will be awhile before I get to shoot. It'll give me time to read the manual and get her cleaned and lubed ready for the firework, ha ha.

This is my first 1911 but shot one in boot camp in 1984, i wanted one ever since, it was made by Singer I shot that pretty well for a marksmanship score. That thing was loose and sloppy. Can't wait to see how I so with this.

Have a great day

I found my two at Gander Mountain on Friday. I've been on waiting lists at different gun shops in this area. When a friend told me they were there I immediately went. Almost didn't get the second one but I'm thinking it'll make a good safe queen maybe both??231669

Finally got to shoot my gun the other day for the first time.
Straight out-of-the-box with 50 rounds Almost as fast as I could pull the trigger and load the magazines. Remington IMF 230gr. No malfunction
Good day

Hey, I got one of those. I like the factory grips, but like yours better.
Are they any thinner than the factory?
My only complaint is that the factory grips seem a little thick.

WXYZ
03-22-2013, 17:27
The eaglewind grips are the same thickness as the factory but they're out of stock at the moment. They also sell different designs but the only problem is that Ruger Store takes looong time to ship (2-3 weeks)

I believe the new Ruger grips feel slightly thinner....I also a shop in Kentucky (hint) had them for $595 yesterday..and in stock. Took the pistol to the range last weekend..great time..no issues what ever..brought home cleaned and everything looked great..

I'm looking for thin thin. That's the only way with how my hands are I can reach the mag release.
Glad u had a good day at the range.
What part of KY?

Just handled the only Ruger Commander I've seen at my lgs.I was not impressed.Slide to frame fit was quite sloppy with vertical and horizontal play.Barrel fit was poor too with play in full battery. This gun is now off my buy list.

I would say fit and finish is a relative term. Is it in the same ball park as a Wilson? No, but mine is fit as well as any other $5-800 1911 I've held.
AND the only 1911 I've owned (now, I've gotta be careful here because I'm kinda new at this and the most expensive 1911 I've owned was a railed operator) that went through the first 250 without a hiccup of any kind.
I would say look again at the next one. Everyone puts out bad examples. Could have been finished-up Friday afternoon at 5:00.

Yeah, I recently got to fondle one at the local Cabelas... It was a loose as my Para GI Expert (but cost more, and had less plastic parts). Finish was nice, fit not so much. Still, when they get off MSRP, I'll probably dive in.

No kidding! Last weekend's SGK show in Hampton, VA had one single Ruger commander in the building and it was listed at $850 plus tax. It was the only thing I really wanted to see that and had planned on purchasing if the price was right. It looked and felt nice, but I knew folks were walking out with these for under $700 so I quickly passed it over.

I like the look of the standard medallion grips in pictures, but after seeing it in person, the medallion looks cheap and gives it a toy appearance IMO. I'd have to find one with the wing grip panels like the OP has.

If they offer a blued version, I'll want it as well as the Stainless.

Teecher45

Unfortunately they do not. I also wanted a blued commander but couldn't find one. The only one 1 I found was a 1991 colt and they wanted $999. No thanks.
Stainless has its place too.
