I agree, even though somehow I ended up with a stainless. I started out looking for a Model 29 like this.

Could never find one with exactly the right kind of combat grips though. I like how the finger grooves are so pronounced.

While I've had extensive revolver experiences (having started the journey in 1970), the collection swelled, then dwindled after a couple of divorces.

Two formerly owned revolvers which came and went fairly recently were an S&W Model 629-6

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a294/RioVistaSlim/IMG_2780.jpg

and a 1979 manufactured Colt Python.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a294/RioVistaSlim/IMG_3557.jpg

The guns were great, but the N-frame Smith had too long of a trigger reach for my smaller-sized hands. The Python, although a "grail" gun replacement for one I owned in the late 1970s, was just too nice for a guy who shoots his guns all the time. I sold it to someone who lusted after it, and would give it a good home.

I've reached a point in my life where I like shorter barreled revolvers to carry and shoot. That's why I particularly like the S&W Model 12, although you can't get holsters off-the-rack to fit these much anymore.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a294/RioVistaSlim/IMG_4263-1.jpg

Custom-made holsters are another matter, though.

Please give me your impressions on the Hogue Bantam grip for the LCR. The Tamer grip is too big for my preference and about the only one I can see for replacement is the Bantam and some Eagle Grips wooden fingergrooved grips.

Not the prettiest, but a great shooter and easy to carry. 231517

I wished that I could remember who had the 625 Mountain Gun pic. It's an outdoors pic.

How about a good old fashion Triple Lock in .44 Special?

For most folks I suppose a Python is the "ultimate" American production revolver, but to me a Triple Lock .44 is the "Holy Grail"

The Triple Lock was the ultimate modern DA handgun. It's a damn shame that there weren't more made. I need to save up for a Registered Magnum so that my SW collection can be more complete.

Anyway, people are so used with the current DA wheelguns made with the "target style" cosmetics of heavy barrel, top and bottom ribs, target grips, etc. These guns take away the handliness that was the epitome for the combat revolvers - sleek, fast handling, light, and pointable.

I have yet to be able to shoot an autopistol as fast AND accurate as these wheelguns. Yes, I can dump a mag pretty quick with the spray & pray, but rapid fire on target shooting? The DA wheelgun always does it for me and that's why I am not afraid of depending on a mere six-shooter for self-defense.

Not a fan of the boot grip. It's OK but definitely my third choice. My time between shots increases because theres not enough to hang on to. The standard Hogue is tops for comfort at the range and I carry with the Crimson Trace.

At the end of a 150 round 6 hour training class, using +P HP's I had a good blister on the inside of my right thumb from the Crimson Trace grips.
