Yeah I would.

new or used that is either a great or good deal 'round Chicagoland...no matter the prefix, they are the same pistol but for finishing...if YOU plan on working on it (or having work done on it) then any finishing is probably a moot point, isn't it???

While I prefer colts SA is certainly the best foreign made 1911 and is considered a good build base by many smiths. 650 does seem a bit much to me as all the colts I have ever bought cost me 700 or less and I would prefer to build on a colt

I agree with MajorD

My only two "custom Builds" have been done on Springfields though.
Would have preferred to have used Colts, but it just worked out that way.

Thanks, all. I'll see if I can get his price down. The gun is in excellent shape.

Not a bad price, what is the condition?

If you're after a base gun to build on I would hold out for a GI rather than a Loaded.

So, you're saying that the SA loaded can not be improved upon nor could be further customized or upgraded?

Nope,.......just a joke!

OK.

Since I'm left handed, I wanted to at least add an ambi mag release and safety if the price of the weapon was worth the additions. I would also like to have a platform I would be able to further customize with appreciable results if I so desired.

Thanks all for the replies!

Like I said before,....I used a NM Loaded for a project.
Joe Chambers did a bit of work on it and refinished it.

For $650 the Loaded you are looking at is a good deal!

Mr. faawrenchbndr, Thanks for the info. All the pics from your project thread are not available.

I think I'll try to snag this weapon and make it mine.

as a southpaw...any extra you pay is worth it then for the loaded...and as for Chicago area prices...$650 for a nice loaded is a great deal...especially as those with the NM frames want a premium...pics and a range report...

I would never pay what people want for a GI because for me the sights are too small and I need to do too much to get it like I want...

...the Mil-Spec is (for me) a better choice if you want a 1911A1 type pistol with the arched MSH and spur hammer but many...me included...get bitten by the spur and need to add an ambi safety...

the loaded gets you many of the things many people want AND that ambi safety for us South Paws...

...now go get it...

One thing about the Loaded, you can enjoy it while you decide what you want to do to it. For me, I can't enjoy a 1911 built on the GI platform due to hammer bite and it being very uncomfortable to shoot. I had a couple of older GIs and it wasn't until I owned a SA Loaded I knew what the joy of shooting 1911s was all about. I no longer own any SAs, but they are great guns.
