A few months ago I was behind a young man who had a nose ring , among others. I tapped him on the shoulder and explained to him that I and other people who have hogs put rings into their noses to keep them from "rootin' in the dirt " and then asked him " how's that working out for you ? " the cashier had to turn away she was laughing so hard.

In a couple of decades it will be bold and rebellious not to have a tattoo. Everyone and his grandmother seem to have one these days; most of them eyesores.

No piercings here. I suppose you also think that if I'm for gay rights, I must be a homo?

I just don't confront people who are minding their own business in public about their own affairs.

Don't get me wrong, I have tattoos myself. But I go to work in a suit and no one is the wiser. Piercings in my face? That's asking for negative attention.

I'm with you on that one, but my original statement was just disbelief that someone would make fun of a complete stranger, in public, and think that it's hilarious. Adult bullying, and not even from a cop! It reminds me of a story about a guy I know's father: Dude is an ex-Marine who served in Korea. He's in his 60s, and is in some establishment when he see's a young kid with an American flag T-shirt, and says something like "hey ****face, you'd better get that shirt off before I take it off for you." Being youthful, kid says "**** you, old man!" Sir kindly throws the kid through a glass window. Regardless of his reasons, the guy was a prick and a bigot and wrong (yeah, I knew him IRL).

I've always chuckled at the "those tattoos are going to look like hell when you get old" comments... When I'm 70 years old, who the hell am I trying to impress? By the way, I know a musician who's 50. He's in great athletic shape, has sleeves on both arms, and they both look fine.

My son is a Tattoo Artist.

He eventually took out the nose ring and the ear hole gauge poker chip thingies. I suppose the extra nostril hole might making picking boogers a challenge in the future, but don't know or care. :whistling:

I do like one of his neck tattoos. He has a few.

I also expect his familial male nostril and ear hair growth spurt at age 45ish to be reeeeal interesting. I just hope I'm around to laugh with him about it in 15 years as he does have a great sense of humor and can laugh about his quirks.

I am almost speechless looking at what people do to themselves. I am a fifteen year tattoo and piercing artist, doing up scale art in discrete locations that people keep to themselves. I have never done a neck piece, or tattooed across someone's knuckles. I have never installed poker chips in someone's ear, and I think anyone having them is showing their IQ, and their lack of respect for their elders.

Is it our schools, TV, fluoride in the water, or microwaved food that has turned our children into a disenfranchised culture?

If you follow tattoos back into history, the artists said no, and led customers into acceptable choices. Todays artists by in large, are ruining people's futures in the trash they put on people. I am ashamed of most tattoo artists for the disservice they provide to young people, that should be helped making better choices.

Look at what was considered risqué 200 years ago, then 100, then 50. Hell, people thought the Beatles were radical when they first hit the shores of the US.

I'll call it the natural progression of things. Not saying I condone it or that I'm even a part of it. It's just the way things are.

There is a young man who works at the local supermarket that has holes in his ear lobes you could fit a 2 inch pipe through. I find it nauseating.

I also won't be eating where someone with guaged, infected, rotten, stinking, ear flesh is waiting tables or serving food.

People that do this crap are screaming for attention, so I give it to them. My favorite is to just stare at them until they say something then explain just that. But most of the time they just wander off.

I have no problem with tattoos, as long as they can be hidden when necessary. Have many myself, all concealable if needed.

Facial, hands, and neck tattoos are not for me, but I am not going to ***** about the folk that have them. To each their own. I know a lot of people that have them that are gainfully employed. Are they doctors and lawyers, no. Do they make enough to support their families, yes.

Now as far as the idiots with the "poker chips" in their ears, I could go on all day about! That **** looks ridiculous and will never heal! At least with just regular piercings once you've decided to be an adult the holes close up and leave hardly any evidence of their prior existence. But once these kids decide to make the holes big enough to where you can put a pop can through their ear (or even the "small" ones that are only about the size of a dime) they are stuck with that FOREVER! And considering most of the ones that do this are still in their 20's, there will be some interesting looking old folks come 30-50 years from now! I loathe the ear gauging thing! Even more so when an otherwise pretty lady does it :puke:

I took a long time finding the right artist and the right art. I haven't ever been a "snake-through-a-skull" guy and didn't want anything too trashy, but to each their own. I like Japanese art. Not a fan of asian letters or words- hell, it could mean "No 2 with eggroll" for all I know.

This is what I got, I did it for me, and I like it.

Sounds like you don't like tats? that's fine. I am a 60 year old, in shape, and don't look 60, have tats. I don't like nose and big ear loops in the kids these day's, looks stupid. But then, when I see old pic's of people my age when we were young, that long hair and bell bottom pants don't look so cool now. My tats are not faded and my arms are not sagging, but big deal if they were. Maybe when your 60 you'll have some purple skin blotches on your arm, like I see on some people, and wish they were old tats.

I always see lots of young hipsters with the big ear piercings. I always engage them in conversation. It goes a bit like this: "Back in the 70's my grandparents travelled to Papua New Guinea, where the natives had ear piercings very similar to yours. Now, this might be a bit before your time, but they did a brisk business trading the natives their native handcrafts for the old 35 mm plastic film canisters from their cameras, I still have some of those old plastic canisters from back before the days of digital cameras. You got anything worth trading?"

Google "Head Bagel Implant" for the next big thing... injecting a big glob of silicone into the forehead so it looks like a burger bun, then pressing your finger into the middle hard until it forms a depression, then walk around with a bagel inside your forehead. Personally, I think it looks more like a hemorrhoidal anal opening than a bagel, but hey, it's not my body.

As for tats, yeah, I got one, when I was in my mid-20's, still working out and looking more fit than a lot of people who are 1/2 to 3/4 my age. It's how you keep it up that matters and when I get too old to work out, then I will be too old to care.

The pin cushion guy is a beggar in Cuba if I remember correctly. He walks the beaches, panhandling funds from the south American and European tourists. I think his life has some disfunctionality showing.

I am afraid we have opened pandoras box a bit too wide, and the door is open now. The circus is no longer a traveling side show, we are all being pushed daily into accepting this BS as normal. We are becoming the circus.

It always amazes me how people on a gun forum that are constantly crying about their constitutional rights are so quick to judge and criticize others for exercising different rights and freedoms.

If someone else wants to get a tattoo or piercing, good for them.....their body, their property, not anyone else's concern. If they look stupid in their old age or now for that matter, so be it. We are all responsible for our own decisions and people with tattoos and piercings will be responsible for theirs.

I have no piercings and tattoos from my lower shoulders to my elbows, both my calves, and my entire back. Roughly 30% of my body is covered in ink. All are easily covered with a pair of pants and a short sleeved shirt. That was a requirement for ME, not to be accepted by the old timers. Oh, and I have a bachelors degree in information technology and work at a company employing 500+ people as the IT director with 14 years in the field. All of this accomplished by the age of 34. Imagine that. Some inked up thug with both a college education and a well paying career????? We must be in the Twilight Zone for such blasphemy to occur.

I know a lot of well known MMA fighters from American Top Team as my son trains there in BJJ so I see all kinds of good bad and ugly. I don't get the back tats. Why there if you can't see them without looking in the mirror? Neck and face tats are just beyond messed up.

As to the guy questioning why gun guys have opinions about tats. Not one person here said they should be outlawed or illegal. They just basically said they don't care for them. Huge difference.

Everyone has the right to express themselves as they see fit. I find it amusing the people who do this to their bodies and then walk around like they have the secrets to the universe. As I said, they have the right to express themselves as they wish. My way of expressing myself to to look at them like the freaks that they are trying to be. Mission accomplished.

BTW, this will get me heavily flamed. The most metrosexual thing a man can do is get a tattoo on his leg.

Small, discrete, tasteful ones can be cute I guess. But some of the stuff I see I would equate to painting a Porsche 911 with a paint roller.

In a faux finish.

In "Rocker Girl" Purple.

(I don't even know what that is but it can't be a good color for a Porsche.)

In New Jersey if you want a piercing and are under 18,you need your parents permission.
But if you are 14, you can get an abortion , kill your kid, and the the school won't inform your parents. Matter of fact, they will give you a ride there and back in time for your school bus to take you home. America is done for boys and girls
