At 2200 we were at the vets office. He told us that she either had a impaction or her intestine twisted. He said if it was intestinal twisting it would be fatal but he would try to treat her and if she made it thru the night she may be OK..... I slept on the floor next to her to keep her calm and to make sure she wasn't alone.

Sadly at 0308 this AM our 14 yr old lab Cali took her last breath and crossed Rainbow Bridge. My wife is devastated, as am i .

I'm sorry to hear that. I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet. Hang in there, it gets easier...

I’m sorry for your loss. Having an old best friend like we do, you know it is coming but that don’t make it any easier.

This weekend I took my best friend to the woods, her favorite place to be, but even riding on a trailer behind my 4 wheeler was too much for her to take for very long.

Just remember the good time the two of you have had together and you were with Cali at the end.

She had been on heart medication for the past year. He told us he would not do surgery because she would not survive it. I trust his judgment. He's been her vet for 13 yrs.

I am very sorry for the loss of your friend Cali. You were both great parents and you can continue on knowing that you did everything you could for your girl. The good memories will gradually overshadow the bad memory of her death.

Thanks everyone. Its been kinda rough around here for the past few months with everything that the happened. We are coping, but my wife is really taking it hard. The pet cremation service picked her up about a hour ago. It was difficult to see her leave. :(

Sorry for your loss. That's one thing about pets, we usually outlive them way too much.

My kitties are getting into the 13s and 14s years now and they probably won't last much afterward.

Sorry for your loss, I just had to put down our's last week. He was 17 years old, his vision and hearing had already gone and last week his legs gave up on him (they were already weak). I realized that I had to do it for him, even if it's not the easiest on us, as an owner we have to do what's best for them.

I have a growing pet cemetery in the back part of the pasture.
My first and most favorite dog is there, my wife’s most favorite dog is there too. We have one now that has one paw in it now.
Too bad dogs have such a short life span.

I do have a puppy sleeping on the floor few feet away from me right now. Will I have to bury this one some day too?

It is just life. All you can do is choose the place you go to when it is your time.

Sorry to hear about that. I have a 12 year old terroir who has definitely slowed down, and is having a tough time. I got her as a kid and she was my first dog. It's killing me to think about her not being around any more. I also have a 1 year old lab who is my first dog all to myself ( not the family dog) and I love her more than I like most people. Keep strong

I'm sorry for your loss. They all have to go and it always hurts. We have two getting up there in age and I dread the day.

I am sorry for your loss. :crying: Remember the good times. Cali is now running and playing. She is happy for all the loving and attention she got from you.

I have had to go through this several times in the past, and it is never easy. I will probably be facing this situation again before too long. My English Setter will turn 16, in a couple of month. Her hearing is not what it was and her rear legs are getting weaker.
