That was my first thought as well. The second the guy started to show resistance, the BG immediately turned and started running.

Yeah, I thought so too. If he was holding it like a prop instead of ready to fire it might make sense. If you're going to shoot a pistol grip 12 gauge you better have a good grip on it.

Friend of mine was in NOLA partying. Gets into his car, goes to close the door and it won't close. He looks up and sees a punk pointing a mouse gun at him. Draws his own 1911. Punk screams and drops gun.

Cops come. Taking report, he explains what happened. Cop says, "You know you could've just shot him"

Looking down the barrel of a .45 pointed at you it looks like you could crawl in the barrel. I'da run too. Did he keep the mouse gun?

After a Saturday night working in the quarter? 5AM?

He probably had a few hundred bucks cash in his pocket.

Yeah, or the other option would be to screw your mouse gun into the guy's ear and BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

I'm afraid I have to call BS.

Not on "partying" in the Quarter with a 1911 on your hip, but that he didn't get blazed on.

A long gun provides a lot of leverage. Once he grabbed the barrel and pointed it away from him I can see how it could have been easy to use the leverage to rip the gun out of the guys hands.

Action beats reaction.

It's highly likely that's the reason he was targeted.

Anyone notice that our good citizen appeared to be looking at/texting on his phone rather than paying attention to his surroundings, alone on the street, in NOLA, at 5 am? Condition green. Situational awareness, people!

Latest thing I saw was two guys came by later in a sedan and asked for the gun back in trade for his cell phone that he dropped. He declined and butt stroked their rear window with the gun. One bad dude.

I guess that old saw about racking a shotgun slide will make people pee themselves doesn't work on everybody.

No kidding. I was working the door at a bar and witnessed a few guys arguing. One guy went to his trunk took out a gun racked the slide and shoved it in his waist band and put his shirt over it. Myself and another bouncer walked up to him, told him not to move his hands. The man said F. you and tried to draw his gun, my buddy who goes about 320 bear hugged him and I took his gun. If I remember correctly he ended up unconscious. Funny thing was the gun was fake, a working replica of a S&W 9mm. This happened years ago and I still wonder what he was thinking and why we just didn't call the police.

I had my wallet stolen in a snatch and grab on Ursulines & Chartres a few blocks away, back before the storm.

She made it about a block and ran straight into the cops that were watching her the whole time, before I caught up too, 5 seconds later.

True Story- cops took my statement and handed me back my wallet sans cash. I asked what's up and they said, "She might have hidden it deep-on-her-person if you know what I mean... you probably don't want it back."

And they go to take her away and I'm like, "Ummm... so... it was about $100. I put it in the report." and they're like, "Yeah, we'll give you a call if it turns up in booking."

And that was the end of that... Oh, and my friend who was with me at the time had gotten a tattoo from the same cop years before while he was moonlighting as a tattoo artist... weird.

It was worth ~$100 to get my ID card and other items back, though.

NOLA has (had?) the lowest paid police force of any major metropolitan city.

The cops would have to take other jobs to put food on the table or maintain any standard of living. Perfect example- This guy was apparently a tattoo artist on the side.

The other thing was that every Precinct had a moonlighting roster and you had to hire a police officer if you had a party with more than, like... 75 people, I think.

Any calls come in and the responding officer deals only with his co worker, who will no doubt assure him that all is well. At the end of the night, you tip out the cop cash and he hands you his business card- so you can skip the whole calling the precinct thing next time.
