I'm not picky about the brand, just interested in small pistol primers. What is the best place to go on the web far as price?

I've done this in the past and paid a $20 hazmat fee. Seems like I caught wind at the local gun store that they have raised the fee and added something else in. Any truth to that.

I may be better off paying the rip off price at the brick and mortar stores. Close to $45!

I guess it depends on how many you are buying. I tend to buy 10K at a time, usually a couple sizes of each, so the Hazmat isn't a big deal. If you are buying in 1K increments, the local store is the only way to go.

Powder Valley has Tula SPP in stock at $23.50/K. I don't like Wolf/Tula for my pistol loads, so I would opt for CCI at $27/K.

Good luck.

I order between 30,000 to 50,000 at a time of small pistol and might throw in 5 to 10 thousand large pistol. Yes I save up so I can do so than trying to just come up with the money. Also it might help to get in with your reloading friends and do a group order. I use Federal primers and they are very hard to come by these days.

Even in smaller quantities it is way cheaper to order primers online. I just ordered 5,000 SPP's and 3,000 LPP's from Midway for $253.96. It works out to $31.74 per 1,000. My LGS wants $44.00 for a box of pistol primers. Even after paying Hazmat I saved $99.00. I admit it was a little cheaper because I didn't have to pay the $16.00 shipping fee.

The new hm is $27.50, add shipping, you have to order enough to make it worth ordering. For me, that is often 10k or 10 units, 1# of powder or 1k primers is a unit. It just depends on local prices. Here, $45-50/k, plus 8% st! I order on line.

No way. If you can afford to order online, try to order 10k or so, you'll make up that hazmat fee pretty easily.

Personally, I like to put a bit of money back for every box of ammo I shoot (say, $6). When it's time to order components, you should have enough money back to order in quantity to get some savings. Since bullets do not require hazmat, I typically consider them a lower priority than powder and primers.

I order almost exactly as unclebob does... 25-35k SPP, then 5-10k LPP. As for where and what to buy. I've always been happy with Powder Valley, and CCI or Winchester.
