They lowered the prices again but will be charging shipping after May 9th. Until then they have $5 flat rate no matter how big/small the order is.

Good time to make the switch to coated lead, which is what I want to do anyway.

I saw that. It's too bad. I've turned a lot of folks onto them for bullets. The free shipping was a big selling point. Had to order another 2000 today, just because.

Yeah I didn't really need more right now but I can see a order of 6k coming before the 9th

Keep in mind, fellas, there never was "free shipping". Their prices included the shipping charge - you were still paying for it.
They've simply adjusted their prices and decided that for marketing purposes, it is better to compete and charge shipping separately like everyone else does.

Its a great marketing plan! They will sell a ton of bullets before the 9th by people worried about the shipping charges. Then they will adjust the price accordingly, they could be charging a little more anyways and still be competitive.

Luckily for me, we have a couple of local xtreme distributers. You actually get a couple or three dollars off the internet price from them. I just meet up with them swinging by the club during the weekdays for practice.

I understand your thinking.. but. .. have you noticed the increased prices at Precision Delta lately ?

It isnt MGs price hike that annoyed me. It is how they treated their dealers/customers that already had orders in and paid for before Sandy Hook. They contacted them and said we have your bullets ready to ship but we have jacked up the price due to demand.

Similar to Brownells canceling my order that was already paid so they could raise the price on the magazines.

As someone said, nothing is free. I kind of actually prefer the manufacturers that charge actual shipping separately. If they tell you how much can be fit in each flat rate box, that lets you optimize your order to get the most out of your shipping fee. The ones where shipping is included, they're just averaging shipping costs and making that part of the price for your bullets.

I just placed my first xtreme bullets order, and then got the email about the change. May have to stock up before the 9th.

So their email says

$13 Off All 1,000 Count Bullets

Big letters and all. However, I go to order 9mm bullets and I no longer see any 1,000 count offerings? Am I missing something?

There are no 1000 counts, you order 2 500 count and the discount applies to that.

After not seeing a discount in the cart for 2 500 counts, I emailed them. If they reduced the 500 round count, then why didn't they just say that? :headscratch:

You know that by going and buying 2500 6000, or more you are starting another spree , Just when bullets are making a come back, you are going to put a strain on them again!
Thanks a lot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if you're not a Facebook user, you are not in the know.

Lucky for me we have GLOCKTALK. Thanks for the update.

It's starting to feel like you "have to" be a Facebook user these days.

Yeah I guess so. I use it to keep track of my kids/grandkids. I've had customers send me notes through FB a wondered why I didn't respond instantly

I'm sure it's only because of the amount of orders they are taking right now with the $5 shipping

I love "free" shipping threads. I'm also a homebrewer, and those forums are full of the same discussions. TANSTAAFL*

They're having a sale on 165 grain .40 bullets, and shipping is still $5. Figured I'd order some. Tried placing an order and the web site is throwing errors. :sigh:

They are definitely slowing down.
I ordered 1000 .380 on 5/4/14. Got a message 5/7/14 saying they had shipped. Checked UPS tracking today and showing delivery for 5/19/14 due to delay on their part. Guess that's what you get for $5 shipping!!

Found this in an email from X-Treme yesterday:

" Finally,we would like to announce that we will be offering 5 dollar flat rate shippingon all orders permanently. So whether you order 2,500 or 25,000 bullets, theshipping will always be the same, 5 dollars! "

Might take a week but that is still faster and cheaper than it takes to get them at the LGS...

Tried again this afternoon and was able to place the order. Not sure they got my email and fixed the problem, or their merchant provider fixed it on their end. Either way, no response from the email... which is no big surprise.

Looks like it may be time to place another order with Extreme, if I need more or not. Last time I waited, the bottom fell out of the reloading supplies and there was nothing to be had.

Then again, its this kind of thinking that causes shortages. Humm... What to do!

There's no such thing as "free" shipping with any company. It's always built into the price. When X-Treme was using USPS Flat Rate, it was easier for them to determine their actual cost of shipping and build it into the price of their bullets. Now that they're forced to use UPS, it's difficult to do that and be fair to their customers so they took the built in shipping cost out of their bullet prices and are now going to charge each customer the actual shipping cost. I commend them for, first of all, offering the $5 shipping deal to make the transition easier for their customers and secondly, for reducing the cost of their bullets rather than just adding shipping costs. This is why X-Treme will continue to be my only source for bullets. Plus of course, I think they have the best plated bullets available.

Where did you get the idea that they're being forced to use UPS instead of USPS? Does the USPS have some kind of restriction on how many boxes you can ship per day or limit on what they'll pick up? I've often wondered why some of the bullet manufacturers ship via USPS flat rate and others use other carriers.

What I've heard is that the mail carriers were putting up a huge stink about carrying and delivering all of those extremely heavy flat rate boxes up to the door. My mail carrier also supported this. I'm not sure how the USPS could exempt them, but it all sounds pretty reasonable to me especially since they were likely losing money on them.

BuckyP
05-16-2014, 19:18
When I got my last order from them, they were still using USPS. The only put 1500 in one box, 500 in another. Seems pretty reasonable. I know Montana Gold packs the to the max, 3000 of the same weight bullet in one box. :wow:

I certainly get the impression my post office doesn't like dealing with ~60lb flat rate boxes...but USPS set the rules. If enough of the workers don't like it, they should get the rules changed and lower the max weights per flat rate box.

Is shipping ever free? No it's rolled into the price of the items. The total $$$ is what matters, 'free' shipping or not.

My guy won't bring the heavy boxes full of bullets to my door, which is just as well as he is looking really long in the tooth. The last thing I want is to look out on my front step and see my friendly letter carrier, old enough to be my dad, sprawled out and needing a 911 call. :)

He brings them in his truck and climbs the stairs to my front door with a slip of paper that tells me I can pick the box up at the office. If I happen to be home, I go down and get them myself from the truck, if I am not at home when he calls, I go down and pick them up at the office. Not a big deal really.

I did find out they don't think quoting the marketing line about "if it fits, it ships" is funny at all. ;)

I've always ordered my Xtreme bullets from TJ Convera's. They cost a little bit more than what Xtreme charges, but they ship the same day or next day. Shipping is free.

Not sure where Xtreme ships from, but TJC ships from Illinois, so they get here quick.

I always determine the cost to get to me. Many bullet companies "include" shipping, so it makes it easier.

I recently thought I found a great deal on HK mags. Even though they were a dollar more than another place, the shipping made my order cheaper. What I missed was the place was out of PA, so I got dinged with sales tax. :faint:
