View Full Version : g30/45 silvertips ballistics
winchester lists the 45 ACP Silvertips at 1000fps/411foot-lbs from their test barrel ( 5-inch? ). Does anybody know the ballistics of the same load from a G30? Thanks.

The 30 does not lose much velocity compared to a 5in due to its unique barrel. The .45 185gr Silvertip is a very mild load though.
Edited to add: The best round from a G30 is Corbon's 165gr PowRball at over 1200fps & 550lb/ft.;)

They lose about 50-100 fps. in a G30.
Silvertips are marginal on bare gelatin (10.4"). They over penetrate and fail to expand in the 4 layer denim barrier tests. I prefer the 230 gr. .45's. My favorites are Win. Ranger T +P, Fed. HydraShock, Speer Gold Dot or Rem. Golden Sabers (bonded if you can find 'em) in 185 gr. or 230 gr. are good also.

The 165gr. Pow-r-ball load does not do 1200fps from the G30. It went 1146fps/481fpe in my G30.
