View Full Version : IPSC Production question
It is my understanding that all guns regardless of caliber and the power factor of their ammo are classed as minor if they are shot in production, can anyone explain to me why this is true? Or tell me if I'm mistaken.

That is true, all hits in Production are scored at Minor PF.
I don't know their reasoning, there are plenty of DA .40s and .45s around to make Major.
No point fighting city hall, though. Just suck it up and shoot. I am going to do that the weekend after next at the Ala State. Of course my Production gun IS a Minor caliber.
I guess it's just to level the playing feild for those that shoot 9mm. If your concerned about it, you could shoot limited 10 and be scored as major.

That is true of USPSA production. I heard IPSC production score everything major but that is unconfirmed.

Real men shoot production and we don't need no stinking extra points for being inaccurate! The extra points from shooting major is the shooting equivalent of affirmative action.

Don't know about that, but there is no 10 round limit in IPSC production.
The minimum power factor for IPSC Production (and USPSA) is 125 and it is scored minor. I know several guys with a G22 or G35 who shoot USPSA Limited, L10, and Production with the same pistol.

The idea was to make EVERYTHING a level playing field in Production; but, if you really want to frost a Standard or Limited shooter, beat him with a "minor" calibre in a stock 17 :) ; having to work with a 5 pound+ trigger makes you a better shooter overall.
PS. IPSC Production also scores everything Minor.
What do you mean by "scored minor"?

I shot the Buckeye Blast in Ohio last Sunday (USPSA) and you needed the power factor of 125 for Production and when I cronaode I was making Major with a 165.4 with my G22 Plus I won Won one stage :)So I could have shot both Production & Limited 10 do to my power factor.
In production your holster and mag holders need to be put from your center line of your body and back in limited 10 you can run a race rig with the mags and holster up frount.
Sniper 7.62,
A buddy of mine shot the Buckeye Blast and I think he is still cleaning mud out of his gear. Said the match was really set up great, too bad that it rained and rained on them.

What squad did he shoot on ? and yah the mud was as deep as 3" in some stages and one guy in our squad was DQ at stage 9 where the mud was the deepest you could not see the gun in the mud except where it hit and left an outline ;P I told him if he had a Glock he could have picked it up and kept going ;f

Sniper - how did you do in Production? Who won? How many of the IPSC shooters in Production class used Glocks at the Buckeye blast? How many shooters (total) showed up? Sounds like a lot of fun!

I came in 12th out of 23 and 5th in U class and I won stage 3 and I was 62 out of 164 guns with a Glock 22 :) and I would say the 1/2 of the gun in Pro where Glocks that I could see.

Hey guys! Did somebody mention THE Buckeye Blast??? ;f
I was one of the assistant Match Directors for the Blast.
And, I RO'ed stage nine (Alien Attack)...last stage before the chrono.
The rain on Saturday...it was a little bit rough. ;) The stages on the upper bays were especially "practical". (ok...there were just plain muddy) Those bays are pretty new...even with all the work that went into them...mother nature just runs her own show.
Production Division had a strong showing of compeptition (the top four palces were at 97.5% or better). Good shooters all around. All the "pending" members that shot Production were Air Marshalls in thier first USPSA match. Those guys impressed me. They all shot Sigs (duty guns).
- Steve Moneypenny won Production with a Para LDA.
- Gary Stevens (the Area 5 director) was second with his Glock.
- BJ Norris was third with a G34.
- Jake Divita was fourth...I think he shot his Beretta, but has been playing with a G35.
The competition in all the Divisions ended up being top notch.

I'll be back next year for sure, So 4 air marshalls shot better than me :) I was 5th in Unclassified but I should have been classified by then but thay did not have my scoers in time for the match :( but it was a great time.
Pure assumption on my part but I believe Production was created to compete with IDPA's SSP division which is a 125 pf. Keeping the pf the same was a good move because the SSP shooters could compete without changing anything.

Hi, I am from CZK (heart of Europe :)), in our country at IPSC matches I am using Glock 17 (own stock, trigger is 2 kg I thing that it is 3,5 lb.), Top 10 shooters use Glock 17, Cz 75/85, Tanfoglio Stock. I think that these 3 models of pistols are best what is on the trade of guns and for good money. After first season I have with Glock "B" class and I am very near to A or M class. You can know our best shooters from WS in JAR or from Pan America Match. For example Jan Knapp, he uses CZ and he is satisfied...the best for you is it what the best fit to your hand.

In IPSC Production is everything MINOR, min. 9 mm Luger, PF 125 but you are limited by a rule. The rule are at the www.ipsc.org. Ask D. Sevginy, I thing he has to know it very well, because WSXII(I?) in JAR was by IPSC rule.
