G29 slide won't come off. I follow the instructions and all goes smooth. But when the slide starts to come off, it only slides forward like a 1/4 inch then stops cold like something is blocking it. If I pull the trigger, the slide moves backwards a little like part of the slide is catching on the trigger.

Any ideas?

When I first got my G30 and followed the directions, I'd retract the slide a bit too far when depressing the slide stop. I could never get the slide off; it would do what yours is doing.

Try bringing the slide back just about an 1/8 or less of an inch, depress the slide stop, and she should ease off. Pull the slide back too far and it won't go forward more than a 1/4 inch. Hope that's the problem.

Na, that's not the problem. I had a 26 and a 29 before and never had this problem. I can see in the slight crack between the slide and the frame that part of the trigger is wedging up and stopping the slide from moving forward for some reason. That's why when I pull the trigger the slide moves backwards.
I really like Glocks, but they are starting to piss me off. My 29 was total crap and now the slide won't come off my 30. My 26 was good to me though.

Are you sure it is not your Recoil Spring interfering on the frame?

Have the NY trigger spring installed???

If so you need to hold the trigger back after pulling while slipping the slide off.

i am a first time glock owner personally. i know exactly what your talking about. not sure if your doing this or not. i think in the instructions it says to pull the trigger first before you pull slide off doesnt it?? anyway. after i do that i pull the little tabs, pull slide back a little and push it forward as per directions. now this is where it wont slide off all the way for me also. so after you get it started grip the gun differant and pull it off. its really hard to explain but it works.

Is it a new 30? There is a chance that it might be a little on the tight side, and you might be applying an unequal force as your removing the slide. Try this put the slide back on fully, rack, pull trigger. Now pull slide slightly to rear (1/2") and pull down the slide release thingy, and make sure you are pulling straight off the frame, with no unequal or lateral pressure. Worst case scenario is to pay a visit to your local gun shop / Glock Armorer.

Also ... could there be a possibility that it was field stripped already and improperly reassembled?

When I first got my 30, it was a little stubborn in coming off. But it loosened up with some love, and patience

I bet whats happening to your Glock is the same thing that was going on with my G21.

The guide rod was coming completely out of the semi circle area on the barrel. I know that they are suppose to slip down a bit, but mine was coming out completely. When you go to remove the slide, two things were happening. First, the recoil spring was hanging up a bit on the slide retaining bar, and secondly, because the recoil spring and rod had come out of the semicircle completely, the locking section of the barrel was coming down JUST enough to engage on the locking block. It turns out to be a worn out recoil spring and it needed a new guide rod. Since the G21 has a captive spring/rod assembly, it had to be replaced as one unit.

cryhavoc, how come the g30 has 2 "half circles" for the guide rod to sit in and which one is it supposed to be in? im assuming the one closest to the barrel

This happened to me recently.

I cleared it by being sure that the magazine was removed and the chamber was clear, then dryfire. I was then able to remove the slide easily. I thought at the time that I had first tried to remove the slide without dryfire-ing to cause the hang-up.

Try letting the slide slam home on an empty chamber, this will put the recoil rod back in the proper place and allow it to come off easily. That is if the problem is that it is coming out of where it should be. Don't worry, doing this won't hurt your gun.

Definitely make sure the MAGAZINE has been removed.
