I've had a Glock 21 for over 2 years. Yesterday, I bought a Glock 30. My 21 makes no noise whatsoever when I shake it, but my new 30 has something rattling in it close to the rear of the slide. Is this something to be concerned about? Should I take it back to my dealer since I just bought it yesterday? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure its not the mag? Mine makes no noise. If it does it without the mag then you may want to have it checked.;)

I rechecked it. Yes it does it without the mag, but only when the trigger is in the "pulled" position. When the trigger is in the cocked position, it's silent like my 21, but my 21 is silent either way.

It's the striker! The safety is working!

If the mag is out and the trigger has been pulled/dry-fired and the slide not reset, the rattle is the firing pin having no tension on it from the rear of the trigger bar, as well as not being restrained by the safety plunger. It is normal. In fact, I like mine rattling in that state because it lets me know there is no crud in the firing pin channel to grip the pin since it is obviously moving freely.

It's the G21 that has the problem, not the G30! When clean and dry, (never lube the striker channel) the striker should "rattle" when not under tension. The G21 probably is in dire need of a striker channel cleaning.

It's the stiker...don't worry...normal. Worry when it DOESN'T rattle.

Thanks guys. I did even more checking, and when I put a little extra pressure on 21's trigger while in the pulled position it rattles also. I've only fired about 200 rounds with my 21, and field strip and clean it after each session. But I haven't taken it out in several months. I haven't fired my 30 yet, but hope to get to the range soon.

I would worry about the 21, the striker should be looser than that

Sir,

Respectfully, the 30 sounds like it is defective, and you need to get rid of it as soon as humanly possible. I will be happy to pay you 100 for it, and forward my email address to you. I would hate to see a fellow GT'er have a glock that did not function 100% :)
