Welp, I'm off to Thunder Ranch for the 5-day DH1 class next week, and I'm planning on using my G30 with Ashley tritium sights for most of it. I'm dragging along a bone-stock G30 for a backup.
The Ashley Big Dot tritium sights worked surprisingly well for me after I installed them last week. It's definitely a different sight picture, but not nearly as different as say... those Steyr trapezoidal sights. We'll see how I like them after 5 days at TR, but I'm pretty sure I'm sold on 'em. Stick the big white dot over whatever you want to fall down, and pull the trigger. It feels like some kind of white-trash red-dot sight. I can't pull off any 2" 25 yard groups with them, but hell, I can barely manage a 2" group at 25 inches. ;)
For close-in work, though, I think you're hard pressed to beat 'em.
I've been using my Alessi CQC-S for my G30 for a month or so now, and I have to say, it's the comfiest CCW holster I've ever had.. and for me, it conceals nearly as well as IWB would, and it carries MUCH easier. I'm also dragging a Comp-Tac locking paddle for the G30, just in case I want something a little farther off my hip.
Thanks to everyone for all the good advice that I've gotten here over the past few months.. now that the equipment part is taken care of, I guess I just have to worry about the idiot operator. :)
I'll let everyone know how it goes.
