View Full Version : G33 - Sig.239
I posted a question lately about the acuracy of the 33. I was haveing problems getting groups at about 7 yards. I heard the 33 was very acurate and the sig, in some opinions was even a little better.
I bought a NIB sig 239, had to be ordered because I went with the factory night sights, and as soon as I picked it up I felt the slide move. I was not happy about that but was told that lately sig's do that from the factory. I even seen a few posts about it at the sig forum, but everyone said theres still shot great.
I took it to the range last weekend and it was right on the money. very easy to shoot and dead on, but I cant stand the slop in the slide. Now you can even feel some play in the barrel. I only put about 250 rounds threw it. A gun that rattles when you move it is just not tolorable.
Now the Glock. I put one of the Hogue slip on grips, put the 5lb trigger conector back on and BANG! Now it shoots the way I expect.
I love my g30. The absolute best 45 for me. I expected my 33 to be just as easy to punch the center right out of the bulls eye at 7 yards and can almost do that now, still need a little more practice with the .357sig round out of such a small and light hand gun.
I guess the bottom line is I needed a better grip on that little mean SOB.
I love my Glocks. I think my 33 was my best choice.

If you are not happy with the sig I would contact them.
Sig will do a lot for you to make ya happy if the gun is sill under warrenty.
I think I will do that. Cant hurt to call them and see what they will say.
I was just realy surprised, I heard so much about Sig craftmanship and quality and to have that much slack was not what I expected at all. My glocks are solid, and have a lot of rounds threw them.

That doesn't sound right. My SIG 239 is tight as a drum. I would call SIGarms and let them check it out.

I just bought mine last week(Sig 239)tight as a drum, and accurate as can be.:)
But for carry it's either my G32 or G33,I just do not like any safetys on my carry guns.
Okay not a safety,the do-hicky decocker thingy;g
Truckin' Joe, the Sig P239 doesn't have an external safety. Its internal safeties, combined with a DA first shot, are its safeties.
I own two G33s and two P239s (one in .357 Sig and the other in 9mm). All are outstanding firearms. I shoot the G33 more consistently (and thus more accurately), but that's mainly due to the extensive practice I have done with Glocks.

 Got mine last week new out of the box. It's tight! The slide is as tight as the one on my H&K Compact. I put Hogue Rubber grips on it. It is sweet. It may become my #1 CCW! It sounds to me that there is something not right. I too hate a gun that rattles. I Had a Taurus Auto and it shot okay, but boy was it lose and noisy. It was pretty too, but I would'nt use it for carry. I traded it in on a G33!! Tee! Hee! You should get your problem checked out. Everyone should Love thier Sig.;* ;f ;f ;f ;f
I called Sig today and spoke to Ed and got a routing number from him. I will send it out tomarow. I didnt ask if there would be any charge to look at it. I am curious to see how they will handle this and how much they want to please a new customer. This will be the deciding factor on whether I get another Sig or not.
I would never have purchased it if I picked it up from behind the counter and felt how loose that slide was, but because I had orderd it from my dealer I felt like I made a deal and to stick with it.
If you are still not happy with you SIG I am an authorized disposal center for them. I will take care of it for you. I will even pay the shipping here.

When you find out what what is wrong or when they fix it can you post. I am really curious about this problem. My friend has a 239 and love it and I have a 229 and like it too. They are both really tight too.
Good Luck

All the 239's that I've handled, new and used, have been virgin tight. I just saw one today while I was getting a new pair of duty pants and I may have to break down and get it. For only $350 I don't think I can go wrong.

Well here it is.
I spoke to David today at sig arms and he told me that the play in a single stack with stainless slide is normal. I told him that I have posted on two diffrent discusion boards and everyone responded that they never seen one NIB that had play in the slide.
David told me that it needed play in it to work properly.
The pistal will be here by friday. Tampa gun show is this weekend and that is where I will dump it.
No more sigs for me.
Never order a gun, I have to handle them first from now on.

I bought a P239 .357 NIB. Mine does have quite a bit of play in the slide/frame fit but does group very nicely. I did have to replace the crappy factory grips with houge rubber. If not for my G32, it would be my main carry gun.

My P239 is tighter than old Dick's hat band and the .357 is a tack driving SOB. Can't say that for the .40 barrel however.;e

spikester,
If you haven't already, consider adding the Pearce + 1 fingertip extension to one of your G33 Magazines. They really don't take up much space but may give you an appreciable added grip handling diminsion to improve your shots.

G33 - Shame about your 239 problems. They really are excellent weapons. I would have to agree that your slide/frame fit should not be sloppy loose. I don't care if the rep said the gun would explode without that loose fit, I still wouldn't care for that slop and would not accept it in a new gun..
I love my 239/357SIG and it's as tight as a frog's @$$ and as accurate as a frog's tongue.
I gave up on the p239, it is in the back of my safe now. I have picked up other new p239's that are in stores and they are all loose now. I guess they changed the way they make them now.
My experience with Sig's customer service was bad also. I wont recomend the p239 to anyone.
I do have the +1 pinky extension on a few of my g33 mags, I think they are great.
My G33 is tied with my Kahr pm9 for favorite carry.
Also I would just like to add that I realy apreciate everyones help on here when I was trying to get my sig fixed.
Thanks again.
Does the P239 rattle due to the slide being made out of SS or does the blue slide have the same problem. Was looking at buying one in .357 sig in the not to distance future.:)
I was told by the Bench tech at Sig, actualy two of them, that all the SS single stacks were built that way now to make them more reliable in all conditions.
If you want his extension # drop me a private message. I would realy recomend that you talk to Sig before you drop the 600 bucks. Maybe they will have better luck convinceing you that a loose slide is not a sign of low quality.
Once again I will say that it shot with no malfunctions and was reasonably accurate.

All of the 239 slides are milled stainless. Some are treated with Nitron and others are left plain with a beadblast-type finish. Shouldn't make a difference.
It's funny how you've been told that they were loosened up too improve reliability when I've never seen a failure with this model in all three calibers and have heard of very few over on the SIG Forum. What are they trying to improve?
Here's a thread over on that forum which has some discussion on this topic. There's a few more too you can find using the search feature. Some interesting things I picked up from this thread are that folks have noticed the slide to frame rattle decreasing when you have a round chambered and that some found that alot of the rattle was actually generated from their triggers shaking around.
SIG Forum (http://sigforum.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=674608412&f=430601935&m=80360112&r=57560912#57560912)
That is very true in my case also that with a round chamberd it rattles a lot less.

I have a 228 that rattles. It was my second pistol. My first was a nice Colt 1911. I took the pistol back to the dealer and he said it was fine. I could not believe that a slide which moved so much on the frame would be accurate. That is until I found my moment of "zen". I put 5 rounds through the same hole at five yards. I have shot 1.5 inch groups at ten yards with the pistol "loose". I have never had any failures of any type with this pistol. I was told that the play in the slide does not affect the accuracy in a Sig like a 1911 would be.
My rattle was in the slide to frame. The pistol has developed some play in the breech block. This was due to the retaining pin being reused and not put in right by a crappy gunsmith. I will have it fixed sooner or later (I carry a G31/30).
My 220 does move a little too. Both will shoot better than I can. I am sorry about your distaste for Sigs.
