I ordered this morning a new Sig P239 in 357 Sig from my long time gun dealer. Should be here in Denver in a day or two.
Thought long and hard between the 9mm and the 357 Sig and the latter is the ultimate winner.

Good choice on the Sig.;f As for which is better, 9mm or .357sig in an auto pistol.........this is a LONG, drawn out arguement that will continue on forever until high power factory loads are offered in .357sig like they are offered in 9mm. Either way, the most powerful 9mm loads come "close" to standard pressure .357sig loads, but do not exceed them. An impressive custom load for the .357sig I've seen throws a 140gr bullet at 1570fps out of a G31. Probably the reason we aren't seeing higher power factory loads is that there is little demand for it. The .357sig is a man stopper, and the standard loads do that role VERY well. Why increase recoil, muzzle flash, noise, and overpenetration when the current loads will do just fine?;Q

*wonders what the pressure was in this "impressive custom load" ;Q

Please tell us more about this 140 gr load.
Thanks,

A buddy of mine does extensive reloading for a variety of calibres. He also does a lot of deer hunting with .357mag and .44mag, so he was looking to see if he could boost up the .357sig in a 140gr bullet for hunting. I'm not sure what pressure he had for these loads in .357sig, but when he measured their velocity he was getting between 1450 and 1570fps out of a G31. He did however say that there was quite a bit of recoil, noise, and muzzle flash..........so it may not be adequate for a defense load.;g He has fired about 500rds of this custom load without any case failures.

Scott E.G.,
Would you happen to know which bullet? And what powder he uses?
Hornady makes a 140XTP in .357, but I am not aware of any commercial 140 9mm bullets.
Thanks,
Neal

I got my P239 in .357Sig last week. I have not had the chance to wring her out...yet! Mine has the nifty Siglite nightsights. Nice piece.
Let me know how the P239 shoots. Thinking of getting one myself in 357sig.

I'll have to contact him and get more details on what he used. I don't reload, so you may be beating a dead horse asking me reloading specifics.;f I know that he used Starline Brass, Alliant Power Pistol Powder, and I "think" a Speer bullet(don't quote me on that). Either way, I know he was very close to 45,000psi.

Call Tom at Tom and Joes in Wheat Ridge at 303-231-0998 and tell him that you read my post on GT. I would prefer that you discuss price with Tom as I know he will treat you well. Tell him that Jerry, the fire truck exporter referred you. Tom and I go back a lot of years.

I don't really know Scott, but I'd have to guess closer to 52,000+ psi.
Let me know when he loses the use of his hand.
Before that happens, maybe he could send a few rounds to AmmoLab for a quick check. I might be worth the price of a few fingers.
