Could someone offer some advice on what necessary purchases would go along with a Glock 30. I've never owned a handgun before. Like sights, grips, bullets, etc.

Also average price of a new glock 30 and the above additional equipment?

Thanks for any assistance.

Only accessories I'd put on a self defense gun are a set of night sites (anywhere from $69-$150). Also get a decent holster ($50-$100) and belt ($35-$50). And a whole bunch of ammo. (I heard a old junior rifle coach say anyone can become a great rifle shot, all it takes is 10,000 rounds) If you are new to handguns I'd recommend you put at least a couple of cases through it.

Too many people try to come up with a "Hardware" fix to a "Software" problem. Buying gadgets for you gun is a hardware fix. Training and practice shooting your gun are a "Software" fix. Proper software is needed to get the most performance out of your hardware. Once your software is optimized and and running at it's peak than you can tweak your hardware.

A stock G30 will shoot much more accurately than most of it's owners can.

Pay for a professional training class. And NRA basic pistol course or the equivalent is worth plenty of range time. Practice does no good if you aren't practicing right.

Very true Harlequin,

I forgot the training part in my post.

Can anyone recommend a course in the Tampa, FL area by chance? And also, what is avg retail price for a Glock 30?

The G30 is a nice piece of equipment, go for it! Then look around and find a holster you are comfortable with that meets your needs. I recommend you buy some extra magazines for sure.

Milt Sparks makes some nice leather and has several models to choose from if you are looking for a place to start.

At the Fort Meyers show a G 30 NIB was $525. IMO for someone who has never owned a gun before, you maybe starting with a caliber that may hamper your basic skill set. Plus the .45 is midrange in cost for ammo. 9mm practice rounds can cost about 50% less. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I've not taken it, but the instructor at Knight's Shooting Sports in Largo is supposed to be pretty good. I was going to take his course, but couldn't get my schedule in order. Glock 30, NIB at Kastle Keep in Largo was $529 last time I was there (a few months ago). I imagine Tampa prices will about the same +/- $10. As suggested by others, all you need is some type of training class, good carry rig (if you decide to get your CWP) and lots and lots of ammo! Good luck. Stay safe.

only thing I added was a pierce mag extension for the pinky. I'll probably get night sights eventually but I actually like the glock sights.

I'm having night sights put on later this month. I'd suggest getting one 9 rd magazine. I have two- one wiht the Pearce extension & one without. Personally, I like it better than the factory ten.

My apologies for the other response...........I just couldn't resist. I suspect the 9 rounder is prefered because it conceals better.

Shoot well.

The 10 rd has a pinky rest. The 9 rd. is almost flush to the grips bottom.

You can do just fine with a G30 right out of the box. It will work just fine for most applications that way.

That said, I have made a few minor adjustments to mine:

Steel Guide Rods (Wolff)
Stronger recoil springs (Wolff - 19lb./ I shoot +P loads for defense)
Pearce grip extender
Novak combat rear sight (plain black)
Trijicon front sight (green Tritium night-sight)
Aro-tek extended slide release
Extra magazines
Assorted holsters/belts

Any changes you make will ultimately be to fit your personal tastes/applications. You'll get many opinions here, but you will ultimately have to decide what works best for you.

I'll sugest that you go to Wal Mart once or twice a week and buy all the Winchester white box .45acp value packs they have. Keep the brass someday you may want to reload.

Sorry for the delayed response...the biggest thing is concealed carry- I like the way the mag is basically flush with the bottom of the grip. The pinkie extension doesn't really affect that either. I guess it's just a personal preference thing. The weight difference in the 9 & 10 rd mag is negligible.

Happy shooting.

Just curious

How many mags do Glocks come with when new?

LGCubana

Not a whole lot. To start off with they both hold 9 rounds.

The new 10 rounders that came with my gun have been loaded with 10 rounds for 6 months. I even shaved the feet down on the followers. I still have to SLAM them into the gun to seat the mag. They'd only be useful to me to load from slide lock.

The nine rounders with a Pearce +0 is comfy and looks damn sexy! Also better for CCW since they blend cleanly with the backstrap unlike the pointy 10 rounders.

My 30 mags are the same way Grandfather. For all practical puposes they are 9 rounders.

I've been shooting handguns since I was pre-pubescent, which was a few summers ago. I've owned a G30 for several years now, and it's a great pistol; however, it's not a pistol that I'd consider recommending to somebody who'd never done any handgunning before. Seems to me that the G26 (9mm), which is smaller, lighter, easier to conceal, and recoils less than a G30, would be a better first pistol, assuming that you're buying for concealed carry. Also, you can shoot 9mm for about 1/2 of what .45ACP costs. 11 rounds of 9mm, with the option of G17, 18, and G19 mags as backups sound pretty good to me.
