Teng,

You have to remember that I got these guns through the years. Some of them I got cheap from guys who were in dire straits and wanted fast cash or dealer inventory that had to be moved at year's end.

Yeah! I hear you on the guns there being very expensive. During my last visit, I went out of a gunstore LMAO when they told me that a Glock would cost me around 40K including licensing. It was not until y'all were talking about it here in GT that I realized that the saleslady was not pulling my leg.

But one thing that I have my hats off to you guys is that y'all are biting the bullet on registering the guns every 2 yrs. For some like you that have a whole bunch, that must hurt huh???

I do not know if you remember one comment that I made a long time ago here in GT-BOG where I mentioned that y'all must be pretty affluent to indulge in a very expensive hobby. I really could not imagine the average Juan dela Cruz shelling out a few months salary for a gun much more for 10php every time he pulls the trigger. Looking at your pics (at the gunshow) and your GT handles, I pretty much know that y'all are!!!!;W ;W ;W

doctabako,

That is a beauty!

Here is mine. It is only a semi-auto though. I still am saving up so I can buy either a registered DIAS or M16. As my luck would have it, every time I am nearing the $6-8K mark for such (they are that expensive here because they had to be registered as full-auto before 1986), something comes up and depletes my funds. ;1 ;1

I am doing my darnest though to get one soon because I have one in Cebu and they are pretty fun to play with.

thanks, yours ain't no slouch either. I see that your bushmaster has an M4 type upper receiver w/o carrying handle which lends itself to more options and accessories compared to my vietnam era antique.:) I've always wanted to accessorize mine but my attention is always shifted to other pistols that keep coming out, begging me to buy them;Q much to the chagrin of the wifey. Since rifle competitions are coming to the fore here, I plan to dress it up and enhance it a little in order to compete(although I'm told that the short barrel(11.5 inch) would present a problem in making major(correct me if i'm wrong)due to the decreased muzzle velocity. Still I hope I can use this in the standard rifle category.

I heard about how 11.5" barrel was not able to get the bullet to around 2400 fps which is ideal for maximum expansion of the M855 but other than that it should be fine. A weapon like yours that has a short barrel is ideal for CQB. Expansion is not really a defining criteria for such a task compared to "pointability" in such short and cramped spaces. Besides, I think that punching through bulletproof vest and non-concrete porous walls will make up for bullet expansion. ;f

My original upper for my rifle was the 11.5" barrel with a 5.5" flash suppressor and I was impressed with it's "shootability". I did notice though that the SS109 round have a less dramatic hole through a 1/4" steel plate compared to one that has a 14.5" barrel @ 50 yds. Maybe they are right about the 14.5" barrel on the M4 being the ideal for the 5.56 round.

Other than the Aimpoint on an ARMS mount and flip-up BUIS, my rifle is as plain jane as can be. I used to have a RAS on it but decided to take it off in favor of the bulkier original M4 handguard with dual heat shields to make the rifle lighter and more friendly to my left hand/wrist.

While the BM above is for worse case scenario, the one below is simply for fun or for varmint hunting. On a stress-free range day, I can make a couple of holes touch each other @ 100 yrds. Of course, I do it on the bench!:)

It has a 3-9x Bushnell, stainless steel bull barrel, free floating aluminum handguards and A1 stock.

According to the guidelines released by the PPSA and PNP-FED, the minimum barrel length for competition is 14.5 inches inclusive of the flash hider/muzzle brake. Guess I'll just have to look for a longer flash hider, as mine currently measures only 13 inches if you include the flash hider,if I understand the rules correctly.

OOooooppss! you mean for competition??? I thought all along you were askng about the functionality of a rifle with 11" barrel. My bad......

I think you are right because at the last 3-gun shootout that I went to, I did not see anyone with a rifle that has a barrel less than 16".

If you wanna go into serious 3 gunnin I would suggest a 20 in barrel, Some competitors in the USPSA 3 gun a couple of months ago using 16 inchers had problems making major ( which really played havoc on their aggregate scores) unless you handload and use 69 grs.

ssshhht! HOY!

You can't make major with .223 . . . but you can make minor! (160PF for USPSA/IPSC rifle). ;f

As far as short barrels go . . . the 20 inchers give you more leeway, but you can easily make major with 55gr in a 16 inch gun (or even 14.5 inch) as long as you use appropriate ammo. Any ammo that is genuine US mil-spec M193 will make minor in a 14.5 inch gun and will do so so easily in a 16 inch gun.

Some choices:

Federal XM193
Winchester USA (white box) Q3131 and Q3131A
IMI M193
So. African M1A3 and M1A4

American Eagle should do it too, and there are others, but you should always chrono your ammo in your rifle to make sure!

What ammo does the military use in the Philippines? It should be either M193 spec or M855 spec (M855 = 5.56NATO = 62gr SS109).

Some of the commercial ammo like PMC 55gr FMJ is notoriously wimpy and has been the downfall of more than one 3-gun shooter when they failed to make minor.

3-Gun RULES! ~2

Wow! What did you do to the Para frame to make it look like that? When I first saw the photo, I thought it was a Caspian frame.

mc_oliver
12-11-2003, 19:58
I think he re-cut the frame and put a mag well of his own design. Re-shaped and checkered it. Made some aluminum filler to fill-in the depression at the rear of the grip frame area. And touched up on the tactical look with the skateboard tape. ;f

All I can tell is that they all look GOOD!

Is the grip thing done to reduce the size? I could use something like that on my guns.

Also . . . it looks like someone welded an extension on the dust covers! That's cool!

mc_oliver
12-15-2003, 00:42
We have lots of old Para frames here so the local smiths have mastered the art of re-shaping them. Also a lot of people use the Armscor lower patterned after the blocky old Para frame. So a lot of work is also being done rounding these frames so it doesn't feel very blocky.

The dust covers have been cut very close to the front of the rails. Then a long one is attached and tig welded. The slide is also "re-modeled" to fit the new long dust cover.

This is a new trend that has been catching on since the total cost of the work plus cost of gun is still much lower than a STI edge/SPS.

;)
