Has anyone here tried shooting .45 GAP ammo in a .45 ACP revolver?

I'm tempted to try it in my S&W 625.

I think it should work.

Accuracy probably won't be great, but it should work.

I have a Taurus 455 that uses "stellar clips" to shoot 45 ACP. I tried some of the 45 GAP rounds in the clips, but they were too loose to stay in place. The extractor grove is not quite the same as 45 ACP. I would appreciate hearing if they work in the Smith clips just the same.

I have contacted S&W on that 45GAP in the S&W 625, cause I have a 625.

To date they have not tested this, and as you say the moonclips don't fit. They're working on it and will release their opinion on this once their testing is complete.

Until then... don't, wait until S&W completes the testing and comes up with a working moonclip. It might also not work.

The GAP round works great in the SW full moon clips. As a matter of fact, you don't need a tool to remove the empties because of the slight differences in the rim. Offhand at 20yds the accuracy was the same. Always remember that the manufacturer will have a problem with you shooting a different round out of their products if it is not chambered for it, you know...that lawyer stuff.

Wink, what brand of ammo? I tried this in my Taurus 455, but the rounds were too loose to stay in the "stellar clips". I know the T's clips are thinner, etc., but I am hoping that the difference is in the ammo.

We were using the Speeer 200gr Gold Dot and the 200gr Lawman. The SW clips held the rounds tight, but we could still pull the empties out without a tool.
good luck

Thanks for the info, Wink. I will drop by the local FFL with a couple of clips and try them. The Tuarus clips must be a looser. I have never had to have a tool to load or unload them. From the pics I have seen I think the S&W clips are thicker, as well.

Thanks again...
