What is the purpose of the new cartridge? I'm just asking for informational purposes. I've been a longtime .45ACP fan, and am just trying to understand the reasoning.
I'm assuming it's kind of like the .40S&W was to bridge the gap between 9mm and .45 acp?
Is the G37 Single Stack? Is the frame/slide slimmer?
Thanks guys for your answers. I can't find any info on Glock's website.:)
Brian,
The purpose was to fit a cartridge with a .45 caliber bullet into a smaller framed pistol without sacrificing the ballistics of a .45ACP. The G37 utilized the exact same frame as a G17/G22/G31 pistol. The magazine is staggered, allowing a maximum of 10 rounds for both civilian and L.E. use.
Ever since the G21 was introduced around 1990, the biggest single complaint was the fat grip that housed 13 rounds.
When the G30 was intruduced in 1997, same complaint about it's 10-1 fat frame.
When the G36 was introduced in 1999 or 2000, the biggest single complaint was lack of magazine capacity, it's single stack being 6+1.
With the G37, you have a 10+1 round "45" that feels like a G17.
I am very pleased with mine.

I think the last time Glock did an update was when the G24 was still being made.
To keep it short: The .45 GAP was made to fit in 9mm sized frames. It is shorter and offers the same and sometimes a bit more speed than a .45 ACP. It's kinda like what happened to the 10mm as far as getting a 40 caliber to fit into a 9mm sized frame. Yes, the 10mm in same grain bullet is faster and harder hitting than a .40 S&W, but many would rather have a 9mm sized gun that a full size 10mm sized frame. Each person has a different take on what I just said, but this is what I think in the short answer. You get a small framed 9mm sized gun that has a .45 sized hole in it. I love the .45 GAP and like it even more when others dislike it.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm glad all of you who have them are pleased. Maybe one day soon I'll get to shoot one.
Thanks for the info to help clear things up for me.:)
