For those who are interested, ammolab.com conducted bare and clothed gelatin tests of the 185 and 200 grain CCI/Speer Gold Dot .45GAP loads.

It appears to me that the 185 load is the better choice. It expanded in all 5 clothed shots, whereas the 200 failed to expand in 3 of its 5 clothed shots and only partially in the fourth.

Both loads exhibited adequate penetration.

In the info Speer released, the 200 GD looked "better". The 200 GD went over 12 inches in bare gel, the 185 under 12 inches; both looked good in cloth, denim, auto glass.

AmmoLab's results are more in line w the FBI results from the 185/200 45 ACP GDs too.

185 GD, 1041 fps

bare 11.95/.68
cloth 14.75/.68

200 GD, 1062 fps

bare 11.7/.75
cloth 18.8/.55

The 185 GAP is closer to the velocity the 185 ACP GD was designed for, 1050 fps. The 200 GAP is about 100 fps shy of the 1050 it was designed for, and wasn't that good in cloth at that.

Shoulda just cut 30 grains off the bottom of the 230 GDs; they should work great at 950 fps?

Hope that's what everybody else does that doesn't have a 200 .45 JHP... especially Win w the Ranger T. ;)

The other 185 .45 JHPS should be fine too, especially the 185 Rem GS.
At 1037 fps it did:

bare 14.4/.72
cloth 15.9/.68
glass 13.3/.55

My new G37 shot the 185 GD at 1040 fps and the 200 GD at 972 fps. The 185 stopped in the 3rd jug at .78, the 200 GD in the 4th at .73. ;b
