Hi, I've been looking, maybe I've missed it, but what is the energy of the GAP in relation to the ACP? Seems to me the GAP would be a more powerful round, or should be, otherwise why come out with it?

farranger,

If you "run the numbers" for 45GAP and 45ACP for the same weight bullet (180gr and 200gr) you'll find them identical.

The goal wasn't "make a round more powerful" (we have the 10mm for that! :) ), it was "make a round as powerful but more compact" - that was accomplished!

So essentially the GAP round is shorter, but uses more modern powder, etc to gain the same power allowing a smaller size pistol, slide, etc to do the same work as a larger one.
Is the net size reduction in the weapon fairly substantial?
Can GAP brass be made by cutting down ACP brass?
Thanks, for the previous info. KYle

farranger,
The grip of a Glock 37 is identical to the Glock 17/22, but fires a .451 (45) bullet at the same velocities of an ACP. How do they do that? Newer powders. Powders that weren't around in 1909. You see this if you reload. There is always air space left in an ACP round when you reload it with modern powders. There has to be or you would have extremely high pressures. The pressures for both rounds are the same. You can't cut down 45acp brass. The internal dimensions are different as well as the rim dimensions. The GAP also uses small pistol primers not the large primers on the ACP. Why make the round? I'm glad they did. I love Glocks but have short stubby fingers so the 21 never fit my hand well. I love my 17 and now I can have the same grip and shoot a 45! The slide on the 37 is a 'beveled' 21 slide. It's a little larger than the 17 slide but Glock did an excellent job mating it to the smaller frame. I haven't weighed my guns, but they are about the same weight, give or take a few ounces.
safe shooting

Thanks, as a person with small hands I can appreciate making the glock grips fit the hand better as that is one of my few complaints about glock, other than the grip angle, which I find a bit funny. Thanks again for the info.

The G37 is a great gun, I just passed the 2,000 rd mark with mine on Saturday.
