in Southern California. I am at San Fernando Valley, where is the nearest ground?

Well do you know of any in S. Cali? If I was probably born here in US i wont need to ask.

im east coast, but my best advice would be to pick up a gamelands booklet they are available free everywhere you can buy hunting licences and look to see where is the closest public game land to your location and look for oaks, beech trees, or whatever the local nutbearing tree is..
you will find your grey squirrels there and you can find the fox squirrels in pine trees.

I already have the booklet but it just tell me the general location. I was hoping someone could tell me a specific loc. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

well go find some woods if possible look for a food source sit down be still and get tour limit good luck of all the hunting i do bushy-tails are still my favorite game animal also try the new .17cal you will love it if you use a rimfire
I wish I had the money for the 17HMR. Just got a Remmy 700ADL in 30-06 and Leupold scope VXII. With luck I could go deer hunting next season.
