View Full Version : Anyone top popcorn w/something other than butter?
I myself like to douse(sp) a few shakes of Tabasco brand pepper sauce.
we top it off with carmel ;a ;a the popcorn is great.;f ;f
I like seasoned salt.
another is butter and "parmesan" cheese...the kind in the green can.
Since the dr. told me to cut back on salt, ok stop useing salt, I sprinkle a little garlic on it to give it some flavor.
Cola di Rienza
I tried topping it off with a little too much Creme de Menthe once.. I'll never do that again! If I pop it, I either eat it plain or with a little butter. I did have some chocolate/caramel coated popcorn a few weeks ago that was excellent though.
Garlic might be something to try...
Basil & garlic!
Ever seen "American Pie"?
;f ;f ;f ;f ;f
I heard that when the French first saw popcorn on TV they thought we were putting sugar on the popcorn. That is the way they like it there. Haven't tried it myself, but I do love caramel corn.
Hurricane Popcorn (Hawaii)
A change from the usual party snack mixes, this addictive popcorn mixture popular in Hawaii is topped with furikake (a tasty dry mixture of flecks of nori seaweed, sesame seeds, and other ingredients that is usually sprinkled over cooked rice), and mixed with arare (also called senbei), tiny Japanese rice crackers. Any kind of arare or senbei can be used; some are flavored with chiles for extra kick. Furikake is sold in foil packets or plastic-lidded glasses in Japanese markets; packages of arare are widely available in Asian markets and health food stores.
1 package microwave popcorn without butter,
1-1/2 tablespoons furikake
1/4 cup mixed arare or senbei
Prepare microwave popcorn following package directions.
Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan over low heat. Pour over the freshly popped (still warm) popcorn, and mix to coat the popcorn evenly. Sprinkle the furikake over the popcorn and mix again to coat evenly. The key to making this is to add melted butter or margarine before you mix in the furikake. Without the melted butter, the furikake will not cling to the popcorn. Mix in rice crackers and serve.
Tabasco here too. I also like parmesan cheese and the crushed red pepper like you get from pizza places.
tobasco on my corn, and a few shakes in my beer. Nothing like a really cold/hot beer.
Crushed red (cayenne) pepper and parmesian cheese.
Try popping it in bacon grease for a really unique flavor.
