View Full Version : 3 gun shotgun....
what would or is , the best shotgun if you were just starting to shoot 3 gun?
Benellis and Remington 1100s seem to be the most popular, both are good guns. The differences are that Benellis tend to kick a little more but require less maintenance, 1100s tend to have less recoil but more maintenance. Remington makes an 1100 just for 3gunning called the competitionmaster, goes for $750-800, Winchester also makes a 3gun specific shotgun called the SX2 Practical, go to brianenos.com into the 3gun forums for some good info.

I buiilt one from an Old 1100 heavyweight 20ga. The heavy uses the 12 gauge frame and most 12 ga parts. Super soft and fast.
winchester also makes a competition shotgun the 2x practical mine cost 750 and has everything you need to shoot three gun.
Either the Benelli M1 Super 90, or the Remington 1100/11-87. The difference is the Benelli is like a Glock, open the box, shoot, shoot, shoot. Oh, spray a little WD-40 in the gun every 500 rounds or so...
The Remingtons are more like the early 1911's, buy the gun, spend as much on reworking it as it cost originally, and as long as it lasts, things are good. One day you will pull the trigger, and parts will start falling out...
The Winchester SX2, the new darling of 3-gun. That is until everyone started having double feed problems. You should be able to buy all you want at Gunbroker.com for about $300. No one knows how to make them run...
Hey, don't believe anything you read on the net! Show up to your nearest 3-gun match, and check out the competitor's gear for yourself! The shooters will all be more than happy to convince you that the WinRemBenelBrownBeretta Super Practical Tactical IPSC WAZOO 1000 model is the way to go. They will even let you shoot it!
Does 3-gun have an offcial web page?
There is a three gun match every second tue. in norco that I want to start shooting in but they dont have a web page and I have some questions about rules and gear that can be used.
Thanks, Mike.
I'm using an out-of-the-box 1100 Competition Master, it hasn't even had WD-40 sprayed in it! Between the five of us we put about 400 rounds through it at the first match last month without the first problem. The only thing I would suggest is don't try loads that are too light, we found the lightest load that was reliable is a Kent Cartridge 2 3/4 dram, 1 oz. load.
The match you are refering to is the old LESA (Lake Elsinore Shooting Association) 'Tactical Match' on the 2nd Sunday. http://www.raahauges.com/pistols.htm
It requires 3 guns, but it is not a USPSA/SOF 3-gun match. The nearest true 3-gun to you is Palm Springs on the 1st Sunday. They follow USPSA/SOF/Mystery Mountain rules. Check http://www.palmspringsgunclub.org/
