View Full Version : Used G30 for Under $500
This is my first post to Glock talk. I just turned twenty-one Jan. 1 this year, and I am looking to buy my first handgun. I have been raised in a hunting family and have hunted ever since I can remember. So I am no stranger to the world of guns. But I do have a question.I have searched all over for a model 30 and this is what I found. At a local gun shop I have found a Glock M30, with night sights, very slightly used for $450...out the door with taxes and background check..$501. You are probably saying "You should not even thought twice.", well also here I can purchase a brand new M30 without nightsights for $567 out the door. So I was trying to weigh my options...Nightsights and $60 off or a Brand New Glock. If anybody can help with their opinions it would greatly help. My friend who owns a M21 said go with the used one, and other family members (who don't own Glocks) said get the new one.

The used gun will shoot just as good as the new gun. I am however partial to new guns so the extra money would be well spent in my book. Also keep in mind if you decide to sell it, you can probably get back closer to what you paid if you go used. If you buy new, you are going to take a hit if you ever decide to sell it.
If the gun is in good condition...............go for it.

i tend to lean more towards new if this is your first glock
i would spend a little more that way you know what you are buying
but if money is an issue and theres nothing wrong with it go for it
but if you do buy the used i would have it checked out by a glock
armer to make sure it has no problems i bought a new g-30 about two
months ago i realy like this one i also have g-20 ive had others in
the past you can't go wrong with a glock.i added night sights
extended slide relese extended take down lever and stanless guide
rods to both.also you can buy the g-21 mags and add a spacer
gives you a longer grip.

I got a G30 from a Glock Dealer/armorer for $450 with all the Tupperware, spare mag, etc. He estimated it had maybe 400 rounds through it. Not a mark on it. Why buy used whn new will do...and do very nicely indeed in this case.

Does the G30 look to be in good condition(Yeah sometimes you can't really tell)?
Are you going to carry it?
You really can't hurt a Glock.
Buy it!

If the used one has an Exxxxx serial number, it is subject to the frame upgrade(not a recall?)and you should not pay as much for it, unless the upgrade frame has already been installed. If it is not an E series, I would buy it.

I bought mine used for $460.
It still had a large amount of the copper lube in the slide.
And the damn mags took forever to accept more than 9 rounds each.
I'm wondering if people aren't getting the 30, and then trading it back in real quick? Maybe the slight snap is too much for people spoiled by the 1911 feel?
I sought out the 30.
Actually, you know what I just realized.....
A used 30 is probably going to have very few rounds through it.
I'll never let mine go. But someone who decides to sell theirs is probably taking it out, shooting 50 or so rounds, getting a tired hand, and putting it away. After a few times of this, they trade it.
Go used.

I went used just because I knew what to look for and I was going to replace quite a bit in the pistol anyway. One good detail strip (slide and receiver) replacing certain parts and polishing metal contact points along the way, and it was as good as new. Better, even.

Can somebody explain a fee for a background check? I have bought several handguns in Kansas and long guns in Texas, Oklahoma and Oregon all of which I had the NICS (yellow) background check done without any "background check" fees. Im not ranting here Im just curious. I hear all the time of people saying that a gun was such in such price out the door with taxes and background fees?

I guess it started early on when it was much more of a hassle for the gun dealer. Now it is just a phone call and not really much hassle at all. I recently purchased a pistol off the internet and had it shipped to a FFL who would normally charge such a fee in addition to his fee for doing the transfer. For me, the fee was not charged because I have a Texas CHL (handgun license).
Yesteday, my cousin was at a local gunshow, where he purchased a new Glock 23 from a dealer. He does not have a CHL. They took his info, made the call, and had him approved in just a few minutes. No fee was charged.
It also might make make a difference if the dealer was selling the firearm or just doing the transfer where he is not making anything off of the gun itself. Like the $20 shipping charges for $3 of postage and a $1 box, it is whatever the traffic will bear and may be negotiable. Hope this helps.

Everyone has been real helpful. I think that I am going to drive out to the gun store tonight and snatch up that M30. Here in Memphis I have spoke with 3 different Gun dealers and they all charge a $10 background check. I think that it is a silly fee but I guess you got to do what you got to do. I am looking foward to owning my first Glock. As soon as I get it I am going to range to fire some rounds through it to make sure that the used gun functions, but I am sure it will.
Well I went last night to purchase the used M30, filled out all the paper work and then the guy working there informed me that the "System" was down and he couldn't run a background check. Needless to say I, my wife, and my Dad were all upset. This gun store is about 20 to 25 miles from where I live, so it was like it was just down the street. Oh well...He is holding the gun for me and I am going back out there tonight...after I call to make sure the system is up and running. I will post either tonight or in the morning to let everyone know how it went and how it shot at the range.
