I have been thinking about "upgrading" my G26 to a .45 but I had never shot a.45 ACP round -- until last night. I rented a low quality 1911 (I forgot the name; 'something Ordinance') and got the feel of the round. I was surprised at how managable the recoil was, but its accuracy was pitiful. Shot approx 8-12 inches off POA. I quickly finished my 'test' of this arm and tried the G30.
Now I see what all the fuss is about. I was sold!
At 7 yards I was dead on. At 10 yards I was close enough, but sure that I would get better with practice. I was with a friend that loves his SS S&W .45 (I forgot the model) but it was tricked out and he was very proud of it. I blew his doors off with the Glock 30 one handed at 7 yards.
Then, to top of my evening, there was a guy at the range that noticed me shooting the G30 and asked me if I had ever shot the G36 Slimline. I told him that I had not and then he pulled one out of his holster, and handed me its empty mag. I loaded up and fired and again hit all 10s and 9s at 7 yards.
If I were wealthy, I would have one of each of the .45 Glocks. I know that the 1911s are respected and I won't bad mouth them, but the particular one that I used was a POS. It was also too big for concealed carry so I have no need for one.
Now the big question... the G36 or the G30? I love them both and will have one by the next gun show in my area.
I will be a Big Dawg yet.;?
