I have been thinking about "upgrading" my G26 to a .45 but I had never shot a.45 ACP round -- until last night. I rented a low quality 1911 (I forgot the name; 'something Ordinance') and got the feel of the round. I was surprised at how managable the recoil was, but its accuracy was pitiful. Shot approx 8-12 inches off POA. I quickly finished my 'test' of this arm and tried the G30.

Now I see what all the fuss is about. I was sold!

At 7 yards I was dead on. At 10 yards I was close enough, but sure that I would get better with practice. I was with a friend that loves his SS S&W .45 (I forgot the model) but it was tricked out and he was very proud of it. I blew his doors off with the Glock 30 one handed at 7 yards.

Then, to top of my evening, there was a guy at the range that noticed me shooting the G30 and asked me if I had ever shot the G36 Slimline. I told him that I had not and then he pulled one out of his holster, and handed me its empty mag. I loaded up and fired and again hit all 10s and 9s at 7 yards.

If I were wealthy, I would have one of each of the .45 Glocks. I know that the 1911s are respected and I won't bad mouth them, but the particular one that I used was a POS. It was also too big for concealed carry so I have no need for one.

Now the big question... the G36 or the G30? I love them both and will have one by the next gun show in my area.

I will be a Big Dawg yet.;?

Sounds like you got an older Auto-Ordinance. Good name, but quality slipped a lot the last 10 years. Kahr bought them out, brought them up to speed. Most 1911's shoot far better.

I have a 30, and they shoot great. Shot the 36 once. Didn't care for the extra recoil. It's not noticeably slimmer to me for carry, so I stuck with my 30. Having 11 rounds ready to go in a little gun is nice.

You'll get dozens of responses about how the 30 is the best Glock made. Properly accessorized it's even better.

Any accessory recommendations? The only extra items I have for my G26 are Mepro night sights and a Scherer extention. The G30 that I rented had a Pierce grip and I had good control.

The only needed accessories are A.good holster and B.good ammo, in large quantities.

I replaced the original Dot in the Box sights with AO (now Express Sight Systems) Big Dot Tritium Express sights. Fastest combat sights out there. Used them in training and for shooting on the move, etc, excellent. Not target sights, but they're not designed to be.

I have both and they are both excellent. The 30 recoils more soflty, but the 36 is also easy on the recoil, a little more muzzle flip though.

I find myself using the 36 more and more on a daily basis, it does truly have a different feel IWB, and it fits in my hand better.

I cannot get used to IWB for the 30, and forget about ever carrying it tucked. I am 6.2, 250 lbs, have IWB / tuckable holsters from the best names out there, and the 30 really stretches the concept. Moreover, I live in a very warm year round climate, so no heavy sweaters or winter coats to cover up.

The 36 is dead accurate and with Big Dot sights for defense purposes, a great source of reliable, work every time, defense pistol. The 30 sees a lot of range time with the 36, but the 36 is a constant and welcomo companion.

I'm 5'9, 190lbs and I carry my 30 IWB every day with a Comp-Tac Gurkha holster. The new C-TAC is even better. With size-larger-pants and a good Wilderness belt, it's ridiculously easy to hide the 30 under an untucked buttondown shirt.

I really like my G36 but don't care for the G30's blocky grip. It is accurate and the recoil is nothing with hardball-type loads. Very easy to shoot well. My S&W 625 5" barrel that weighs more than twice as much and has more felt recoil and flip than the little G36. You do feel it a little when you touch off the +P rounds, but it is still very controllable. It's by far my favorite Glock model I've tried out of the G17, G19, G21, G26, and G30.
