View Full Version : What brands and types of mags are your favorites?
First off, thanks for looking :)
I'd love to get an idea of what you folks prefer for your AR mags.
I have a mishmash of USGI 20 and 30 rounders as well as a bunch of black teflon coated Brit SA80 mags. At the range I generally use 20 rounders and a couple of Colt 9 rounders.
My USGI 20s are labelled Colt(Universal) and Adventureline. Most of my 30s are Adventureline, Okay, and Sanchez. I've had excellent luck with the black Brit mags.
How about you?

Right now I only have one mag, LOL. It's a LaBelle teflon 30 round(SA80) with the green follower. It works great. I have no plans to buy any other kind....I love the teflon coating. I get them NIW for $20.99 shipped.
Actually, I am going to pick up a couple of 10 or 20 rounders, just because it's hard to shoot off a bench with a 30 round. Anyone know of a good deal on a 10 or 20 round mag?
Go to gun shows, you can pick up brand new 10 round mags for $10 or so, green follower, Hi power springs.... I like the RRA 9 rounders too, they feed really well.
30 rounders.... freehand plinking and around the house for me, at the range, I only use 10 round and an occasional 20.
I only have USGI 30 rounders made by Parsons. Parsons was my first mag and it worked perfect so I bought 8 more. Also have a MWG 90 round drum that has never gave any problems

30 round - Okay, Parsons Precision Products, Adventure Line, Center Industries, and a couple of Colts. Also have a few Orlites, but only use them in the Colt (they are Bushy unfriendly; often won't lock in place).
20s - Colt (several different generations), and Adventure Line.
Also have a few PC Bushmaster frankenmags that came with the rifles. I don't use them for anything; I'm looking forward to the day they are considered collectible remnants of a bygone age, then eBay, here they come! ;f
None have green followers, and all work flawlessly. Two of the thirties will not eject from the gun reliably when the mag release button is pressed; in the good old days, I'd have trashed them, but in these less enlightened times, I keep them for parts and/or stoppage drills. The bottoms of these two are painted day-glo orange to prevent use in serious situations.
Mostly Adventure Line 20s for my Bushy Varminter. Alloy followers, early 70s manufacture. Very reliable and snug in the mag well. Coating is known to be on a little thicker than others. Great mags.
I bought a couple of 30 round USGI mags at the gunshow. I believe they are made by Sanchez. Replaced the spring and followers and they are good to go. No problems and I spent $10.00 on the mags and $3.00 on the springs and followers to rebuild them.;f
Anything USGI. The floorplates have often been switched around, so the you can never really be sure of the brand.
The 20 rounders are great for shooting off a bench.

Labelles or FN mags are my favorite.
However, I'm really liking the blue "English" SA80 mags that CMMG (http://www.cmmginc.com ) sells.

I like the LaBelles also and also have a number of Colts. I have no problems with either. I just bought five more LaBelles for $100 including shipping. These are brand new in the wrap. I'm going to order more tonight. Try AR15 exchange board (http://www.ar15.com/forums/board.html?b=7) for anything you might need.
