View Full Version : Back Up Iron Sights

On the rifle shown below, I currently have Trijicon night sights on the front sight tower and on the removable carry handle. I'm planning on removing the carry handle and adding an EOTech 552, and I'll need to install a back up iron sight behind the EOTech. I realize that I'll need to order another Trijicon rear aperature and have it installed the BUIS. The problem is that the A.R.M.S. #40 requires a front sight post that is .40" taller. The goal is to have Trijicons front and rear, with the EOTech in the middle. Any suggestions on how I can have my cake and eat it, too?

Why do you need a taller front sight post? I've never heard of that. I have an ARMS #40 and the stock front sight works fine.
You can order an ARMS #40 with Trijicon already installed here: http://www.eaglefirearms.net/ARMSnumber40.htm It comes with a Trijicon front sight post.

I've had to use the taller one with my RRA with the ARMS#40 and also with a removable carry handle as well. But to be fair I also have AO same plane rear aperatures on both and that may have some effect. I bought mine (#40 and front sights) from Legal Transfers.
I've heard some rifles need the taller one and some don't so it's a 50/50 shot. The way it was explained to me is that the Colt sight towers are dimensionally slightly different than the others such as RRA and Bushmaster so there is where the taller front sight comes in..
On my 16" Bushy, it was shooting just a tad high when I installed the ARMS 40. I screwed out the front post about 1/2 turn, and it worked just fine.

Bushmaster's listing for the ARMS #40 says you need the taller front sight.

Ahh, I see. I have heard that some Bushy's need a taller front post. I thought you just meant that the ARMS requires a taller post. Maybe Eagle Firearms can help you out with that too. Drop them an email...Chris is a pleasure to do business with.

Ive been noticing on M4 look alikes that the barrel has the thinner part past the handguard to allow for the grenade launcher...is that a pre ban option, or am I wrong?

No, an M4 barrel profile has nothing to do with post/preban. You can buy a postban rifle with M4 barrel, just not a flash suppressor or bayonet lug.

I bought into that, too. Ordered 2 taller front sights and took them to the range when I installed my 40A on my Bushy. Guess what? Never needed them. Of course, YMMV.

I have a Colt M4 with an EOtech and use a GG&G BUIS, it co-witnesses perfect.

LMT makes a sight that is a solid BUIS. It doesn't fold down though but is more durable alternative.

Here is a link if you are interested. LMT sight (http://www.buffertech.com/lmt_sight.asp?prodid=9180&start=1)
I like the GG&G MAD BUIS. Works wonderfully, The trijicon inserts with a glow front post is cool too :)

I have an M4 with meprolight night sights, front and rear, and an Eotech 552. My rear sight is a GG&G A2 Flip-up rear. Works great for me, but I also don't have a quick detach mount for my scope. Not Yet

Might not be much room between the LMT and the Eotech since he will be mounting them both on the flattop. A LMT would be nice with one of the smaller N battery Eotechs.

BTW, I love the LMT iron sites. Nice stuff.
OK guys, have to confess right up front that I'm a Black-Rifle-Newbie with a 16" Bushy (A3) and shopping this weekend for my EOTech 552 before taking my first carbine class in mid-April. I know I need Backup Iron Sights and was *thrilled* to find this thread - but I'm still a little confused - what do I need again? ;f
So please put up with my dumb questions...
My front sight is fixed, and once the EOTech is installed won't it be in the way?
I understand the backup sights flip down so they won't be in the way, but exactly which ones do I need? I've seen quite a few models listed...

The ARMS #40 is a good choice with the EOTech. You can get it here for $89: http://www.eaglefirearms.net/ARMSnumber40.htm

Here is a pic I found of a fixed front sight and a eotech. You can raise your head a little bit and the recticle will be over the top of the front sight.
Here is what it would look like if you raised you head a little. Pic borrowed (or stolen:) ) from Yojimbo.
Hey thanks Britt (and Yojimbo :) ) - that really helps me out - going to the Indy1500 show this weekend to pick one up (please let there be one there!).
