I know I'm not the only Steyr fan out there, so I thought it might be nice to have our own little room to share info on the greatest pistol (and rifles??) made. Anyone interested?

Hope there's enough of us to get one started.

even though I don't have one (yet), I'll put in my vote for the steyr club.

I thought about getting a S9, but the G26 still prevails as the winner, unless you guys can persuade me otherwise!;e I really like how they designed the pistol, borrowing the slide from the HKP7.

PS. ldunin, you have way too much money and time to play with all those guns;f

Count me in too! I hope that nobody looks at the Steyr as competition for the Glocks. Sure they are from a company financial standpoint, but for us shooters I think they are both good firearms. The way that I look at it, the success of the Glock is what spawned the Steyr pistols. Whether or not the Steyrs are actually an improvement over the Glocks is a matter of individual opinion. I like both my G23 and M40 and would hate to part with either of them.

Why don't you write the admin? ;d It would be a waste of time, but you could write him as easily as anyone else. Regardless.....

Did you read my post above? Let's try again :) You need 50 votes before you contact the admin. The following is a quote taken from the "Clubhouse Office" forum description:

"This forum is where all Clubhouse-related information can be posted. This is also the palce to post a message if you would like to create a new club. Remember, a new club must get have least fifty members sign up, before its forum is created."

Yes;b

mrapathy2000

supposed to be conversion kits availible sometime. atleast what a steyr rep told me. last I heard they were taking a 8 month voyage. but being that cdnninvestments and davidsons online got new guns it could be in. try usasteyr for info.

the 357sig is a simple barrel change. the m9 uses same frame as the m40 and m357. if the m9 barrel fits the m40 slide then it will work. you may need a new extractor for reliable extractor. the m9 magazine works in m40 though I dont recommend it for 40S&W use. 9mm in m40 or m357 magazine can work though feedlips need to be closed slightly for better reliability otherwise the 9mm tends to come out easy. 12-13 rounds of 9mm will fit. 10 rounds of 40S&W must work after any mods done to mag.

from what I have heard it does not protrude below the steyr's grip. believe they are same length though catch hole is different.

I have looked into the sigma hicap deal myself. I would of done it if they were more affordable. they are harder to find and more expensive now. anything below $60 for 17 round hicap BUY!

the sigma magazine has a big baseplate on it that is physically bigger than stock. other than that I never heard of the magazine not being a flush fit.

believe a austrian company and website is not translated though if you find it with google or use babel fish it will translate. they also have steyr barrels availible for M40 that convert to various other calibers. 357sig,9x19aka9mm,9x21.

they dont have the adapter posted at website, only the highroad. price sounds good $30ea.

About a year ago I purchased a couple of sigma 17 round mags. They did fit perfectly into my Steyr M9. The problem was the bottom plate looked stupid. I ended up chickening out and not adding the extra hole need to keep the mag in the gun. I had about $50 a piece into the mags and didn't feel like lowering their vallue anymore then I had to. I ended up buying a bunch of M40 mags and putting 9mm into them. That was allot easier, and the .40 mags would feed the .40 and the 9 perfectly. I can now get 12 rounds 9mm into an M40 mag. All I had to do was bring the mag lips just a little closer together. It took me five minutes to adjust them and was allot easier then I thought it would be. I put them in a vise and tapped on them with a brass hammer.

mrapathy2000
02-26-2004, 13:10
the 9mm sigma mags dont fit like the 40S&W 15 round mags do. search on thefiringline and thehighroad will show the same. 9mm sigma mags not a good fit.

M9 and M40 slides very well seem to be interchangeable. I noticed no difference in frame size weight shape. same parts, position. havent tried shooting them exchanged yet might leave that to braver soul than I.

got my new M9 today woohoo. prefer the finish on my M40's. the M9 has the parkerizing on it. m40's are 18,xxx and 19,xxx the M9 is a 28,xxx serial number wise. cannot wait to get those adapters for rail.

edit.

02-27-2004, 14:47
Guys, get this, if you buy .40 Steyr M mag, it fits perfectly into a 9 mm one and you can fit 12 rounds of 9mm into it. You'll need to adjust the lips a little bit, but that's about it. NO need to nuke 50+ bucks on sigma mags. 19.95 at CDNN

All of Fist's holster can be made in Kydex, they list the M series as supported, but they do also make them for the S series, I just ordered one for my S40 in leather, but as I said, they will make any of their styles in Kydex.

BDhawk,

When I get my Steyr M-series, in the next month or two I hope (depends on money; the minute I get the money, I get the gun), I am going to go to Predator holsters in Mesa, AZ, and have them make a custom holster for my M-series. They can make a kydex holster (IWB, paddle, etc.; any of the popular styles) for any gun you bring them.

If I had a more specific idea of when I would be doing this, I would offer to have them make two holsters with my M-series, and you could buy the other one, if you wanted, but I don't know when that will be.

I have one Predator holster for my G19, and I like it a lot. It is an IWB, with the FBI cant, and it is definitely a high quality item. It conceals nicely, and I like it a lot more than my Blade-tech holster for my K40. The Blade-tech snaps are large and fat, and make the rig harder to conceal than it should be IMO.

Right now, I use a Kramer IWB #2 holster in horsehide for my G17, but I like the Predator for my 19 more. I will get a Predator for my G17 eventually... I would do so now if I did not have other financial priorities. I like the Predator more, but that does not mean the Kramer is not a quality rig that is very usable.

Glockmeister carries the full Predator Glock line (that is where I got mine), if you would like to see pictures of them. Predator has a site too, but I cannot remember the URL right now.

Since this looks like it has turned into the "Everything about Steyr until we finally have the Steyr club" thread, I'll post this here rather than make a thread in the "Non-Glock firearms" forum.

Please have a look at THIS (http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn64-e.htm), and tell me...
-is that true? (I haven't found it anywhere else, so I'm cautious...)
-if yes, is there any chance that it will not be considered an "Anti-tank rifle", so I can get one?

c5367
02-28-2004, 13:42
That thing does look like a pretty fun toy. I don't see why one couldn't buy on. It's a single shot .50, just like the Barret. Heck, you can buy semi-auto versions of those. I would guess it could be bought legally, for now at least, provided you can actually find one. The IWS system listed on that site looks REALLY cool;f ;f

AMX
02-28-2004, 14:15
Problem is, I'm in Austria (just found out that I forgot to add that to my profile), and our law is pretty strict about "materiels of war".;b
Now the term "anti-material rifle" is a bit newer than the law, and "heavy sniper rifles" are not even mentioned, but it does include "anti-tank rifles" - which were the ancestors of both, so it could be interpreted this way.

If it is considered an "anti-tank rifle", I'd need special permission by the ministry of defense to legally own one, as well as the ministry of inner affairs; getting this requires a "justified interest", and must not conflict with "important interests, especially military or security".;m
If it's NOT "material of war", it'd be "Kategorie C" (rifled barrel, not self-loading, no handgun), and require only a registration (I wouldn't even have to tell anyone why I wanted it).:)

So, that's my problem.
I'm afraid I'd have to ask a lawyer to know for (almost) sure.;g

c5367
02-28-2004, 15:25
If I read the description of the rifle correctly, it is not "self loading" as it is a single shot, nor is it a hangun obviously, so it seems it would be considered kategorie C, based on the info you provided. Hope ya can get it, please post a review if you do. I'd love to know how she shoots. Viel glück, Herr Amx;f ;c

Well, I just bought a Blade-Tech IWB for my M40 (Ebay;f) any thoughts on these things? I probably should have asked before I dropped 58 bucks. One of the local IDPA chapters only allows concealed holsters, so I'd like to use it for that. Any input is appreciated, thanks

Anyone in here own a SSG? My PD is thinking about buying these. Since this seems to be the Steyr thread I thought I would ask you guys. Thanks.

Just picked up a m9, can't wait to get it to the range. Local dealer going out of business, extra mag, $345.00 OTD. Good thing I have a wife that likes to shoot too, and doesn't care what I get. I think I got a good deal., wanted one for a long time.

they have been making rifles for a good while. atleast since WW2. Actually, the company's history reaches well into the 19th century - and the city Steyr has a long tradirion of arms manufacture, producing firearms since the 17th, and edged weapons since the 14th century...

Count me in too! I don't own a Steyr yet, but I'm about to order an M40. I do have a question that I'm hoping someone might have some feedback on: My FFL spoke to CDNN today about ordering an M40, and I had specifically mentioned that I wanted to make sure the gun had a serial number of at least 10,000 (since I've heard stories of malfunctions on the earlier guns). So he asked them if the stock of M40s they have now fit that requirement. They said that they are not over 10,000, but that they are a brand new shipment just in from Steyr directly. They also said that they are aware of the issues with the early guns, and that he knows for sure that the current inventory they have does not suffer from any of those issues.

I am quite confused, because I know that people are getting M40s with serial numbers well into the 20,000s. So how can CDNNs "new" shipment directly from Steyr contain only guns with serials under 10,000??? Has anyone ordered and received an M40 from CDNN recently? What serial range is yours in? Any other thoughts/comments? Thanks a lot for any help, and I really look forward to joining the club! :-)

my03wrx,

It is true that some pistols with SN# befor 10,000 and up have had (small and fixable) problems, but not all of them have, my M40's SN# is just over 1200 and I have never had the first problem with it in well over 750 rounds, mine is more accurate and feeds smoother than 3 of my friends M40's that SN#s are well over 10,000 (all 3 bought theirs after shooting mine I might add, and they often use the over 10,000 thing to try to get me to trade pistols with them lol). My M40 has had the free Steyr update how ever.

Yeah, like recovering from a heart attack. I have to say ldunin, your attitude in this thread is interesting.

Now, I am going to be taking some of the load off Eric by creating these clubs. If you all are still interested, get me a title and a description.

How about:

The Steyr Club

"You've finally found it!" The only place on the 'net' where you can discuss Steyr firearms.

How about The House of Steyr

he is offering to make us our own club, inside of glock talk...not buy us a domain name and website.

sheesh.

Ahhhhh...... Sorry about that, so I take it he is one of the administrators? That's cool. Yeah, I thought he was going to get a whole new domain started!

Erik really had a heart attack?? Sidearmor mentioned that earlier. Was that an actual statement or a sarcastic remark?

Yes he is an administrator..and i dont see any reason he would have joked about someone having a heart attack..so i assume it is true.

Well, if Sidearmor can really do it, that would be great! Let's hope he can deliver on the promise - our own thread would be a blast to have. Will it be just one thread or will there be sub-sections to it?

First of all, I am an Administrator, I'm female, and I would never joke about something like that. You really do need to work on your people skills.

He is full of SCHICT. I have one of the latest M9s from CDNN and have had several fail to extract/eject. I have talked extensively with Dennis Klocke (319-239-2543) that does the warranty repair work for Diamond Trace/Trail? (800-896-4867)--the Company that warrants and repairs/sells parts for Steyr in the USA. If you are one of the fortunate that receives a good functioning pistol, good for you. If you get one like mine; you better be a competent 'smith or have plenty of shipping money. I have read of 2 complaints with symptoms like mine that sent their M9/M40s in to be repaired and got them back with the same problems and sometimes worse problems.

Check the frustrated Steyr owner threads here.

Ahh, let me back up. Maybe the M40s are all perfect; unlike the M9s. Let's hope so. If the M40s are all perfect, then I retract the "full of SCHICT" line. But not until they are all certified "perfect".

Steyr Club- AUG's, M-series, and Rifles. If you're a fan of the most innovative firearms on the market, this is the club for you

very good of you to help eric out. him having a heart condition is close to home, my brother was put on a transplant list just this week.
hope eric mends well and get back up to speed soon.

BTW, if you will make me a holster, preferably an IWB for my steyr M9, i'll buy it. looks like loads of steyr owners here, there may be a decent market for 'em. decent holsters for them are hard to come by. my sidearmor IWB for my G27 is nothing short of outstanding!

I am a very big fan of the Steyr AUG. c5367, I am going to put your description in.

bdhawk, thanks for asking, Eric is doing better. I am determined to see that he takes it easier though. We don't have any holsters in the works for the Steyr pistols right now. :)

I'm a fan of the AUG too, but my employer isn't. They won't pay me enought to afford a $3-4000 rifle. Big jerks:)

Since the old m pistols are discontinued, making a mold for them might not be cost effective (Kydex is molded right?) But when the new one hits the shelves, I hope Sidearmor will consider making something for it. I've heard nothing but good things about them, and would like to have a quality holster option

and how about a 4th gen IWB for G21/20's??? Big guns need love too!

so what about a Steyr Scout? those are little more affordable. prices may drop on AUG's with DSAarms making new AUG's and new parts coming in and steyr having nice new shop in country.

the original m series may not be alive anymore but the S series is still being produced. anything that works for the M series will work for the S series.

would think "Steyr Pistol&Rifle Club for Steyr enthusiast of all calibers" would be nice name.

I don't see where ldunin's comments indicate "needing to work on people skills." He obviously didn't know about Eric's heart attack. How he missed the sticky message that Eric is in the hospital, I don't know, but he obviously did, or else he would not have thought that the comment about it may have been sarcastic.

Actually, when I first read the message that said "Eric is busy doing other things," I thought recovering was what he was talking about.

His comments about the heart attack were not the only ones I was referring to. I read through this entire thread before responding today. There were several comments made about the admin here.

04-21-2004, 06:17
I think Sidearmor needs to work on her people skills too instead of accusing me of misconduct. I meant no harm here. We have tryied numerous times to contact Erik, who did not respond to any of our emails. Even now, Sidearmor is the one who is doing the thread, not Erik. It appeared that he was ignoring us on this one, which is why I had the attitude I had. How was I supposed to know that he had a heart attack?? Anyway, thanks for the Steyr thread, and please don't fly off the handle like that anymore, Sidearmor. We are all adults here and we need to start behaving as such. Especially the female administrators. :)

ldunin, this is the second time today that I have had to deal with someone who thinks he has a right to use the resources I provide freely and talk crap to the people that make those resources available. I am fed up with people like you. You are no longer welcome on this site. Eric
