View Full Version : Whats the differance?????
Please take a look at these two rifles on the Rock River Arms Site and help me understand what the big differance is.
TASC RIFLE <------------LINK (http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR1215LE&storeid=1&image=rtasc.gif&CFID=263554&CFTOKEN=65971210&jsessionid=06302553471075876188639)
CAR - A2 <----------LINK (http://www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR1300&storeid=1&image=rcara2.gif&CFID=263554&CFTOKEN=65971210&jsessionid=06302553471075876188639)
The Tasc is the cheaper price but what is a STAR safety selector? Is the lockable windage and eleveation good or bad? Pics of these two things would really help me.
This one also has hogue grips for no extra charge, and is cheaper than the Car A2. I think I like the midsize hand guards. With green furniture.
Which one of these would be the better gun and why?
Thanks in advance for your help.
PS. I know about AR15com but I like the folks at glock talk and figure that someone can help me out.;c ;c

The main difference is the rear sight. No, I don't think the rear elevation is a needed feature. The only need for rear elevation is to quick adjust for distance shots(300+ yards), which you won't be shooting that far with iron sights anyways. Elevation is adjusted on the front sight on all AR's.
Also, the CAR A2 comes standard with CAR handgaurd. The TASC has a thick profile R4(M4) handguard. One isn't better than the other, just personal preference. Personally, I don't like the M4 handguard. It's just too fat.
I have no idea what a star selector is.
And another preference that I'll throw out there. Do you really want the A2 version? If you really want the carry handle, you could still get a flat top(A4) and add a removable carry handle and have the same thing as the A2. Then, later on you would still have the option to remove the handle if you want to mount optics. If you get the A2, you're stuck with the A2 configuration and no options. If you ever mount a scope/red dot, you'll have to put it on top of the carry handle. Not only do I think it looks very strange and ugly, it makes the scope too high to use comfortably.
Also, in case you didn't know.....Don't get your RRA from RRA directly. Get it from ADCO Firearms. Both of those rifles are more than a $100 cheaper from ADCO(even cheaper if you order the upper and lower seperately). http://www.adcofirearms.com/rockriver/rraffl.cfm?page=rra Great prices, customer service, and very fast shipping. They'll take care of you better than RRA will, strangly enough. If you send Steve an email, he will be happy to answer any and all questions you have.

Those Adco prices are cheap.
Can you get the add-on A2 handle cheaper elsewhere? It's $110 as an add-on at Adco.
s
I saw A2 carry handles at the gun show for $65 each.

I don't know anything about this company, but they're $69 here: https://www.floridagunworks.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FG&Product_Code=600&Category_Code=ARA+SM
You can get them for $99 from bushmaster.
$89 here: http://www.impactguns.com/store/ar15_a3_carry_handle.html
If you're willing to use something like GunBroker/GunsAmerica you can do even better, $45: http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=15618913
guys, there are new Carry handles out for m4s now.. with the BDC that goes to 800m like the traditional A2. I've seen one, but dont know who made it.
Mindonmatter, the star selector is RRa's proprietary selector , not mil-spec from what I understand, but seems to work fine :-)
Thanks for the help guys. mindonmatter, I didn't know about the price differance at that site. Thanks, I will be checking them out. If anyone has a pic of the star selector I would still like to see it.

No problem. You won't be disappointed dealing with ADCO. They're a class act. Also, I had an absolutely wonderful experience getting my lower from eaglefirearms.net(a little lower price on lowers than ADCO). They have taken very good care of me, before and after the sale. Check ar15.com for countless A+++ recommendations on both companies.
Here's a pic of the star selector. I'm not sure what's so special about it. Just a different shaped selector as far as I can tell:

I love my rock river lower, price wa sgreat, lifetime warranty and it runs like a champ...It is a close rival to my Bushy lower for favorite lower category.
Sweet, thanks for the pic. That star selector is a non issue to me now. I was just worried that if I did decide on that rifle that maybe that selector would be some kind of crazy no good shape but that looks ok with me.

I emailed Rock River Arms and this is what they said,
"The differences between the TASC and the CAR are only in some of the options. They are basically the same rifle."
Hope this helps...traintrackker

LOL, that's too much. If they sent me that reply as an "answer" to my question, they wouldn't get the most friendly response back from me. They could have at least explained what the options are. I think that's why most people get their RRA's from ADCO, instead of RRA directly. Besides the price, their customer service is actually existant and they take care of any problems for you, instead of sending you to RRA. Try emailing steve@adcofirearms.com and I have a feeling he'll take the 3 seconds out of his day to actually explain the difference in the options.

If the handle comes off, it's not an A2.

Reason being that it is $100.00 cheaper than the CAR A2. It also comes with the hogue grip instead at no extra charge. I'm going to get mid-length hand guards A2 buttstock. All furniture and pistol grips green. (Green to be differant;f ) And I think I'm going to get it for dealer cost + 10.00 transfer fee. The FFL I'm dealing with just does transfers to do them (gunsmith) he doesn't mark up the price. (yes, i'm going to kick him some money for being cool.) He has sent them a copy of his ffl and once they get it he can get me a price quote. Now if Uncle Sam would cough up that money he owes me quickly.
