View Full Version : How much were USGI 30 rounders back in the day?
Were they like 5 bucks or something? It seems like mag prices (for AR's anyway) are dropping. Lately it seems like you can get new Labelle's for about $20. I just bought 7 for 20 each shipped. I know the ban may not get renewed, but how cheap will they be then? 20 bucks seems pretty reasonable for a new 30 rd mag to me when I pay 15 or so for a new 10 rd glock mag.
I am interested in this also because I just bought 10 NIW Labelle teflons (5 black,5 grey) for 200 shipped.
How much cheaper can they get?
I now have 20 mags for two rifles. I think I need about 20 more.

In the late eighties you could get NIW USGI 30 rounders at gun shows for $3.
I don't know about new ones, but I used to buy surplus Colt 20 rounders with alloy followers for $5.00 each or three for $10.00.
I can remember throwing mags away regularly instead of restoring them. I could kick myself now of course ;Q
Wow!!!!!!!!!! NIW USGI for 3 bucks!!!!!!!!
If I could get NIW for $10 bucks and NIW glock mags for $15 bucks I don't know what I would do.

I bought a "case" of approximately 40 surplus GI mags back in the late 80's and paid about $90 including shipping. Same vendor sold me some new in the wrapper GI M14 mags for $10 and some surplus Beretta M92 mags for $7 each.
Hang on, those days are coming back (we hope). That said, the Labelle's that are teflon and new in the wrapper that folks are selling now are far nicer magazines than you could generally buy in the 80's and with inflation, that is a reasonable price over what you would have paid for a NIW Colt 30 rounder in those days.
Yeah, before the ban it was easy to get NIW for $5 apiece at gunshows.
However, I got ten Labelle (gray) mags a few years AFTER the ban (1998) for $12 apiece from a deal on ar15.com ... sometimes you just gotta look around for the deals.
Just to mention,I live in Maryland and already the State law makers are proposing to make their own assault weapons ban, just in case the fed ban dissapears. I gather a lot of states will be doing the same.

Doesn't Maryland already have additional restrictions on 30 round mags?
Maryland is the only state I've heard of that has proposed new legislation so far. NY, NJ & CA already have hideous laws in place so the AWB will not sunset for them. Sad :(
Don't count your magazines before the Ban is passed...
AWB II is in the Senate and House and don't be surprised if it comes up for vote when the Free Speech Ban due to McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance reform act dictates you CAN'T RUN adds in Radio, Paper or TV against candidates or on issues using soft money.
Watch it come up then and go to Bush to sign. IT bans everything they didn't ban the first time...
You know they banned Free Speech 60 days before an election...
They will try to ban the 2nd amendment next.
Write, Call, Email, Go to Town hall meetings, EMail the Supreme Court, ACT NOW.
Repeal the Ban on Free Speech!

I'm pretty sure that I heard Bush doesn't support the AWB II.
He says he supports extending the current ban, but he can't sign something that doesn't make it to his desk. ;) Let's see if he keeps his word.
