Ok i was at walmart and picked up some of there
Winchester 230gr FMJ Target/Range ammo (100 round value pack)
i thought this would be good for break in, What do you think, yes or no ?
I also picked up some of there Winchester Super X 185gr Silvertip (#X45ASHP2) What is your take on this round in the Glock 30. Yes or No
Then today i ran across some Speer Gold Dot 230gr GDHP What is your take on these. The guy at the range recomended them but me being dumb didnt check them and when i got home i found out they have a little bit of lead on the tip. Is this not a good round for my Glock 30?
What are some of your defensive rounds you carry? SOrry for so many questions i just trying to learn as much as possible about this ammo for my new weapon.
Thanks for all your help

None of those bullets will hurt your gun.
Just about any JHP (GDHP included) would be good defense ammo. I'd go for a heavier bullet myself.

The Gold Dot is a perfectly good hollowpoint. I use the 230g Federal HydraShok myself, or Remington Golden Sabers when I can't get those.
Any 230g FMJ load is fine for range work. I usually shoot Remington/UMC, CCI Blazer, or S&B. I've avoided Winchester White Box after two-boxes-full I had a failure to fire with every fifth round or so (hard primers). Not every Glock does this, just apparently mine (every pistol has rounds it likes or doesn't.....yours might not like another round). This is why when you finally pick your defensive round, get at least two to three boxes (60 rounds) minimum, and fire them all through your gun (after it's been cleaned of course). If you get a jam, hiccup, sneeze, anything gunwise that's not normal, pick another round. Some guys say use up 200 rounds, but that's a LOT of JHPs, at nearly $15 per 20. 60 rounds of JHP to test should do.
A jacketed bullet will not harm your barrel. Lead at the tip is not a problem. Lead, non jacketed bullets ARE a problem. Just be sure that it feeds effectively in YOUR pistol
Most any name brand of ammo which is FMJ will be fine for practice...get the best buy. Don't forget to look around the internet for good buys on ammo. Sometimes the price is MUCH less than local prchase, even counting S&H, with no tax.
As for defense ammo, again, most any name brand defense ammo is going to be fine. Here the opinions will vary. Some like heavy (230gr)bullets moving at a slower speed and some prefer lighter (165gr and 185gr) bullets moving faster. There is a lot if info on the net. Some of it is old, some of it is biased, some of it is common sense based on experience. YOU ALONE will have to be the judge of what is what and decide what to carry. DO NOT make the decision based on price.
For carry ammo, 100% reliability and control ability in your hand with your pistol should be the primary factor. Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) is the most common bullet form for this purpose.
Personally, I use Blazer (in an IDPA match so I don't have to worry with saving it) and Winchester Value Packs for other practice/sport and I save the brass in case I decide to reload later.
For carry, I use Corbon 185gr+P. rated at 1150fpr and 543ft/lbs energy. In the shorter barrel of the G30 you give up a little velocity and energy so the 185gr gives a little margin to ensure expansion. Their 200gr at 1050 fps and 490 ft/lbs would be a good choice too. In the shorter barrel, you will lose 50-75 fps velocity.
Others like the popular 230gr Federal Hydra-Shok. This is an excellent round but is not a +P round.
I have no problem with the 230 gr from a full size 5" barrel but even at +P loadings the 230gr only reaches 950 fps. Give up 50-75 fps here and you are on the lower edge of reliable expansion velocity (900 fps per Corbon). This is, of course, my reasoning. I would not presume to impose my opinions on your good judgement. You will find a vairety of perfectly valid, and differing, points of view on this (and many other) subject. Hope this helps.
