View Full Version : Got me a new G21!
After much deliberation and trying differant semi autos and glocks I finally picked up my new G21 today! Not only is this my first glock it's my first semi auto. Up until now I've only owned revolvers. I plan to field strip it tonight to clean it as per the manual and just to check it out. Got a question. What should I look for in common wear marks during/after the break in period? Thanks.

~2 I doubt that you'll see any; but watch the locking grooves on top of the barrel and the locking lugs underneath. I would strongly encourage you to acquire a Wolff, 'extra-power' 5 1/2# striker spring; it made a difference for me! You might want to, also, pick up a Jentra grip plug, as well as a Wolff Gunsprings steel recoil guide rod, and standard weight (17#) spring. (Keep the captured factory unit as a spare or for GSSF events.) Make sure you get a holster that covers the trigger area; I'd suggest Kydex; but one of my buddies, just, got a new Kramer IWB snap-on/off holster - conceals beautifully, very practical, and very nice. (Not for competition, though; and it cost him $132.00)

Best of luck with your new Model 21! ^c
No commom wear marks? ok. We'll see.:) I already have the jentra grip plug and some jentra mag bumpers on order. I couldn't believe how easy it was to field strip it! I wiped it down and ran a couple of patchs through the barrel. Lubed it at the points described in the manual with the clp I have. Looks like I'm in love! I'm probably gonna order the wolff steel guide rod and spring along with a good kydex holster next week as I plan to carry it too. But I'll probably wait until I have a few hundred rounds through it before I do. I'm somewhat of a Galco fan so it will either be one of there Armortek holsters or I'm thinking about one of Side Armors offerings with all I've heard about them on here.
Break-in period?
Mine has fired about 2,000 rounds so far from NIB til this morning.
Not one stovepipe, not one FTF. It's been true from the git-go.
Perfection.
I never had a hangun I didn't have to fuss with some until this one.
I don't miss it a bit.
Welcome to the 21 club.

I'd say forget about the stronger striker spring..it'll just increase your trigger pull, and "standard" striker springs work fine. Just be sure to never get any lubricant or solvent in the striker channel. I also don't see any purpose for the plug, but that's a personal choice. I would recommend getting a 20# spring to go along with that 17# spring with the Wolff rod. I find the 20# spring to provide for much more pleasant shooting, particularly with hot loads, than the 17# spring.
I wouldn't own a Glock without AGrip, but, again, that's just personal preference.
Thank all of you for your input. I made it out to the range today. Took 3 wwb value packs from walmart with me. I have to say that I was really impressed. No failures of any kind and ended up with almost one raged hole out to 15 yards! I didn't do quite as well out at 25 yards but I think with more range time I'll be able to tighten my groups up.The recoil was very managable and I was actually suprised at how well I was able to recover and resight for my next shot. The only problem I encountered was the capacity thing. That 10th round was a rather tight squeeze even using the mag loader that came with my pistol. I'm assuming it will get easier as I break in the mags. So, all in all shooting my G21 was about as boring as with my revolvers. Load...shoot...load...shoot...man! Haha, there is no question in my mind...making a Glock my first venture into semi autos was no mistake!
Of all the Glock accessories, the channel plug has got to be the easiest item to install (someone out there just got embarrassed).
